    ...seriously, this is not negotiable...

I think there's a general agreement that Queen AND U2 were the absolute winners that night. Not comparable in terms of epicity and crowd engagement, of course, BUT then again they were in totally different positions back then: Queen were already the masters of the world (and they recorded their famous Live At Wembley there the next year) and U2 were just starting to come out their shells... Very different, and still they both stole the show
  2. I remember watching YouTube videos of Live Aid (as I was yet to be born when it actually happened) and thinking "wow this is a group of guys who are willing to stake their music on something bigger than themselves". It's one thing to sign a fat check every now and then to charity, but it's another thing entire to bring Amnesty International with you on tour.

I was 14 and have a clear memory of that day. We were in a vacation home, somewhere up north in the Netherlands and watched for most of the day until very, very late in the evening/night.
There was so much. It was massive and U2 was, obviously something I looked very much forward to.
I remember being seriously freightend by Bono jumping off the stage - I really thought he did fall. But it was great when he came back with the girl (and she better remembers it).

From the Queen gig the thing I remember most is that the Dutch TV interrupted the gig for the 8 O'Clock news (that still is the main news broadcast, btw).
Anyway...I know very well that I ran towards my little room where I had a little radio and I followed the show from there...
(I was genuinely upset: how did they get it through their thick heads to interrupt QUEEN: lese-majesty!)

  4. That photo makes it seem much more risky than it came across on videos... Now I understand why the band and staff were so worried Damn you Bono...
