    Going against a binding co tract leads to legal fees. And with another equitable entity, lots of legal fees. Why would they pay out when it's easier to play some shows and make money instead of paying it....

    They did have their own merch ops for years. Then decided it would be easier to sign a deal to have someone else deal with it.

    So, whether this tour is "contract obligation" or just a timely distraction from SOE... they are still legally bound partners with Live Nation...
    Yeah I know legally they have to but as it's not a criminal offence they would only have to pay a fine which when your as rich as u2 to me makes it a choice to play these shows. If it wasn't something they could get excited about i think they would have said you know what there's your fine see you later, then they could make the fine back in the next tour when it suited them playing it, so to me they are in a position to decide there own path.
