Experience and Innocence tour
Legs (3): Promo tour, Leg 1: North America, Leg 2: Europe
Shows: 75
  1. The USA remix intro. It would be so much better if Bono didn't talk throught it
It sounds great in the remix
  2. No little things again?

    What's wrong with this song?
Correct me if I'm wrong but the last time they played live was during the Joshua tree tour Rome day 1
  3. Dublin ended with Little Things.

It's a very good closer, but I guess 13 fits better in the story.

It’s a good song - one of the strongest on the record by far and I’d love to hear it personally.

    But....

As I’ve said on a few posts - does it fit the narrative? As Adam said in a Rolling Stone interview a few months back songs inclusion is based on whether it fits the narrative of the story they are trying to tell. In that sense the show/set is not unlike musical theatre - the same principles I suppose.

Now whether you agree with this or not is a moot point, U2 are not a band that just plays the songs each night a la Pearl Jam. They have something to say and this is the way in which they choose to do it.

Personally I feel there are pros and cons to both. i&e was compromised and went half way in my opinion (the second half of the show was basically the greatest hits). This show (I haven’t seen it yet) feels like it is more fully realised in terms of a narrative arc - a concept.

I feel that when they hit upon the idea of not playing JT songs they have given themselves the freedom to evaluate songs based on the story they wanted to tell through the show and since they were now not gong to play 3 of their biggest hits then no song was sacred. So if a song like Little Things didn’t fit with what they wanted to say then they’re not afraid to not play it.

In fact all 3 tours i&e, JT30, e&i have that narrative theme at their heart - much more so than any previous tour.

Was played later in Paris as well.

They probably feel like it has been played and worked as a bridge between tours but now fits the story now.
  6. It is a big shame that Little things is not played this tour. (for now). The only outstanding song of SOE.

The live version of AS brings some action in the show, so I hope it stays in the setlist, with some changes in the graphics of the stage.
  7. I hope they have a big EU flag behind them during NYD like they did with the American flag in American Soul.

I hope it’s not Bono waving one about
  8. Does someone know a good twitter account or other to follow for ticket drops (specifically Paris ?)

I don't know how they generally work (what time they drop, random or not...)
  9. I'm still a bit salty about American Soul being dropped for NYD. It really did seem like one of the highlights in America. It seems like a very safe replacement too. So much they could have done with the slot.
  10. I kinda look at it a different way which is in terms of SOE representation SOL has replaced American Soul and that definitely is favourable for me. One of the biggest issues about the US shows was them playing some of the weaker tunes from SOE by introducing SOL and hopefully RFD as a regular or at least a regular rotational then we are finally getting the majority of the best SOE songs. Not just imo but based on how we voted on this site, the top 6 songs from SOE in no particular order were voted as Little Things, Landlady, Lights Of home, love Is bigger, Summer Of Love and Red Flag Day. 4 out of 6 is a lot better than 2 out of 6 which is what we generally got in the states.
  11. hope that EBTTRT don't be the fish out water remix again...
SOL is growing on me... SAT lately was very weak live.

NYD is good, but we have much more interesting songs to be in it's place.
  12. Going to say something that might be a little controversial, and I haven't been to every U2 tour (in fact the first I attended was 360) but as a fan who's listened to and watched and been to countless U2 shows, I think this is probably their worst tour to date, and I think a break after this is much needed. I think this setlist and this production is a symptom of U2 being out of steam. Not only is so much of the show covering the same ground as the Innocence show (and no this isn't only a hardcore U2 fan's observation, I know a few "casual" fans in real life who saw both shows and were disappointed by Experience), but now they're not even making an effort to try new songs for the European audience.

Maybe they want to let everyone experience the same show, I get that. But if the European shows were different, I would've been able to say "well maybe they just weren't prepared for the North American leg, hence all the same material from Innocence". But nah, same show. It's just a weird thing for U2 to do, who have always wanted to give their fans a fresh and new experience.

Sorry for being a downer. I'm just ready for U2 to go off and dream it all up again.

P.S - no Little Things is just weird as hell to me, it's clear that it's the peak of the album both musically and thematically, and the show is supposed to follow that same theme. Would fit perfect before or after Acrobat or somewhere in there. Or to finish off the main setlist before the encore. Or the first song of the encore.

Basically it should be played and it's weird and stupid that it's not.
