"A tad extreme" is a good description of how I take my passion for this band.

So yeah, when I saw they missed the chance of playing A Sort Of Homecoming in their homecoming gig, when I saw they refused playing I Will Follow or other surprise in the encore of their Dublin gig, when I saw the band going 100% through the motions and playing "just another gig" and not giving a shit about it being the only Irish gig of the tour, that truly disappointed me. To be honest I was disappointed from the start knowing that TJT30 Tour was just a patch, a replacement tour to keep LiveNation satisfied due to SOE and its tour weren't ready by end of 2016 as they had agreed. I had that mindset since the start of the tour, BUT I swear, I swear to Hendrix that I cleansed all of that the moment I stepped foot over Ireland for the 7th time. I was ready to have the time of my life... and I didn't. The missed chances -not only in terms of setlist choices- meant too much to me and I was utterly disappointed. If Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Pearl Jam or any of my "other favorite" bands took these same decissions and missed the same chances, it wouldn't hurt as much because they don't mean as much to me as U2 does.

Now with this new tour they had the chance to redeem themselves in front of me, but to my eyes (judging from what I saw one month ago in Madrid) they just keep going through the motions and squeezing the money cow to the max while keeping the effort machine to the min (represented by the strong IE-recycling up to Copenhagen2). And still I give them another chance because I am about to see 3 of my all time favorite songs replacing most of that lazy IE recycling.

Are they still my favorite band? Sure they are, and always will be. Does that make me oblivious to these facts and feelings? Absolutely not.
Can’t disagree about Dublin last year. My least favourite of my 15 U2 shows. It made me feel selfish at the time as many fans would have taken your face off for the chance at being there. But Amsterdam 2 just a week later was one of my favourite shows. I had so much fun. ASOH and IWF. No idea why they didn’t do it in Dublin but no doubt Dublin just got whichever set list was due next in the rotation.

I had my issues with the 2017 tour. The first leg lost a lot of my faith. Still had fun though.

I’ve no idea where the band are at the minute. Bono looks tired. I hope they take a break after this. Do some studio stuff maybe but I wouldn’t be sad at knowing this was their last tour for five years. I think they need it.
  2. it always intrigues me how people can have their experiences destroyed by such minimal things... a suprise means best show ever and the same setlist means just an average show..

I agree. JT Dublin was a let down in a big way. No amount of fighter jets can make up for not playing a rare or hometown song.

That's funny, I was thinking the same thing.

But then again I think I can understand the emotions Sergio and Gerard are talking about. I remember well how euphoric I was when (in July 2005 in Amsterdam) Miss Sarajevo made an unexpected tour-debut!

maybe your expectations were too high??? We had Sort of Homecoming and I will Follow in Amsterdam, only thing I can say is that Bad was so much better in that third slot... and I will Follow I guess I already heard a million times live so I wouldn't have mind if they would have come up with the Little Things like they did in Dublin... but I will Follow was a great closer too.. useful critisism is always a good thing, but these kind of complaints are just ridiculous.. if you can't make seeing U2 in Dublin a great experience better take a look in the mirror..

Agreed. They've been at it non-stop for almost 5 years now, and for U2 post-80s that's insanity.

I think this sort of "era" of the band has run its course, and whether it's to be the final era of the band or just a stepping stone to the next one, I'm ready to see them go hibernate for a while. Not to say the final shows of this tour shouldn't be exciting as hell, but as you said, the band just kind of seem...spent.

This is going to be such a weird, stupid but kind of funny thing for a U2 fan to say, but part of me misses the "in-between" time of being a U2 fan when everything is shrouded in mystery haha. I like speculating with everyone here, eating up tiny little tidbits of news, that sort of thing. I'm ready for that again. That being said, I'm honestly putting my money on a retirement announcement after this tour. Perhaps not right away, but maybe within a few years.
  7. They've played for 7 months of the year for 3 out of the last 4 years - I'd hardly call that non stop but I do agree that it's been 3 different tours in quick succession which is a lot of work to do, a lot more than if it had been 1 tour spread over 21 months out of the last 36, so I do think they're in need of a break now - take 5 years, leave this i+e/e+I phase and enter a new U2 phase, then hit us with a massive (NEW) stadium tour, or alternatively play Achtung Baby 30 in 2021/2/3 and then give us a new album in 2025 with a tour in 2025/6 - although they might be past it at this point; Adam will be in his mid-late 60s and the rest will be early-mid 60s, although I'm sure the phrase "past it" in their heads (or at least Bono's head) doesn't exist and they'll keep going if it kills them
  8. I had a dream where the edge told me they were playing Little Things in Dublin

I was thinking to myself earlier, the tour ends next week. What we gonna do on here for the next 3-4 years haha

I honestly see them coming back in 2-3 years

What we always do. Listen to beach clips and wonder what will make the next album

I won't look in the mirror (but maybe the i Pad with a Facebook filter). ' Even the greatest stars'...

I went a number of JT shows last year and Cleveland and London were both superior. That's what I'm saying.
