The virus has the potential to infect at least 50% of the population. The death rate is above 5%. Do the maths, keeping in mind that countries like Italy and France have about 5000 beds in intensive care units. And that many of those are already taken. The whole world isn't shutting down destroying the economy for no reason. If millions or tens of millions are infected, the death rate will go up between 10 and 15% of the population. It will be mass graves, if they can be organised. It's not scare mongering. Just look at the Italian data. And, btw, numbers keep going up exponentially in Italy. So the death toll will go up, too, because hospitals are already full. And wait until it spreads to the South, where the healthcare system is a lot worse than it is in the North. Let's talk again in two months to see if it's hyped. Btw: *I really hope I'm wrong*. I'm locked at home in Austria with two small kids; it's no party. Good luck 'working from home' with a 5 and a 3 yo. For months on end. So, again, I *really hope I'm wrong*.

I have friends in intensive care. My age (42). Death rate in Italy for people my age is about 0.5%. Then it goes up exponentially as you get older. *If we can cure everyone*. If we can't it will probably go up to 1 or 2%.
the real problem here in Italy is that all the people can’t see that the problem is real.it’s not a joke.but people go running...walking....take the bus....the tube...gather in the park....
It seems we have reached the number of deaths that China had....and the Chinese are now few....
We MUST stop thinking for ourselves as the Italians have always done
Me,as an italian,I don’t feel like the rest because I don’t act like the rest.it may seem that I feel like being superior.well,I’m not.but often I think that modt of the people around here are deeply stupid.and,as you say....wait until the disease will reach the south where they haven’t a real organization in “sanity”....I don’t want to think about it because it will be a massacre
    We have to collaborate
    So STAY HOME
    It’s hard?yes it is
    But WE MUST

after the tenth death, our president has just decreed a general confinement with the stopping of means of private and public transport! 50% of civil servants will stay at home, except sensitive jobs such as the army, the police ...

Maybe the next choice would be to get a taxi to the embassy of your friend's home country. There they can surely help along, as tourists are stranded all over the world at the moment, with hotels etc closing down.
    Good luck!

Oh no, really... how can an embassy be closed, especially in a worldwide situation like this one now. Geez. Uhm... tough one where to turn to now.
If I get another idea somewhere, I'll let you know.

  8. Two weeks ago things were unfolding.

Last Wednesday we were told to work remotely for an undetermined amount of time

This week things are extremely on edge and a lot of things are now completely shut down.

I guess I don’t see how this response is a joke?
  9. It's common for countries to underestimate something like this. The US is fully onboard now so all is in the past.

Not to get political but Trump's fighting attitude is what everybody needs. The country needs to rally together.
  10. I am at Panama and things are crazy here 100 cases in less than a week
