1. What people who are questioning the mortality rate are overlooking is how contagious the disease is. Even if the mortality rate percentage wise was the same as regular flu, which it isn’t it’s much more, then there would still be more deaths than regular flu because more people will get this virus than the regular flu.

Not to get political but Trump's fighting attitude is what everybody needs. The country needs to rally together.

Right. Trump's fighting attitude once he started taking it seriously. We do need to rally together, and it's refreshing to see Trump at least trying to act presidential. Saying it's all in the past is no excuse for a horrible response, lack of serious early access to testing, etc. The results of that will be evident in the coming weeks and months, unfortunately.

    It was a joke
  4. In or country (0 deaths so far) we have an almost complete lockdown one is allowed to go to buy food, go to work (most people have home office by now) and we can go to walk in nature. Protection masks are compulsory, eventhough it is impossible to buy one.

The goverment is considering a complete lockdown for two weeks. People wouldn't be able to even buy food, if I understand it correctly.

I am affraid we are heading towards a scenario where many more people will die because of the conequencies of this "war with virus" than the virus would ever be able to kill.

I don't understand the situation at all and I am completely confused. I have no idea how dangerous this virus is. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. All I can do is to read the internet, but I don't believe a single information. Or rather can't distinguish what might be true and what not. Most of it is clearly a political propaganda and if there is a bit of truth somewhere, how am I to find out? I mean yeah, one can choose "reliable" sources, like WHO. But how do I KNOW that WHO is not the main evil behind this all? That is the thing - it sounds mad and illogical, but I don't KNOW anything. All I do is that I read some things and I have to choose whether I believe it or not. And I can imagine the truth may be way more ackward than I can dream of.

Maybe there is this virus, which is really dangerous. Maybe it is all a very well played game how to crush the whole World's economy. Maybe it is just a test for something worse. Maybe it is a plan how to eliminate part of the population. Not by any virus. By an information about the virus. I mean, once people won't be able to buy food, it is just a matter of time they start to rob and kill one another. I have had this feeling for two weeks now and just now, when I read that the government actually thinks about it, I am getting to be finally scared. Not of the virus. Of people.

    Try this on. :)

  7. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that this is the case, it was just the most bizzare thought (at the first look) that came to my mind to show that there are many many... many possible scenarios and it is impossible to get to KNOW the correct one. That all we can do is to read the news on the internet and among all that garbage to choose what we do and what we don't believe. And since most of the stuff about the virus on the internet comes from politicians, at least in our country, it is a hopleless task.
If you take it out of context like that, it looks simply crazy. I know, it was probably not your intention, but I didn't see that this particular sentence would backfire
  8. GUYS I found this concert from 360 (It is on this website and available to download the audio) 2009-07-07_-_Milan_Italy.

It is not only uplifting, but Bono gives a speech around the 23 minutes mark which will affect you all deeply with the situation we are all living rige now with the Coronavirus.

So, PLEASE, go ahead and listen to that concert. It is not a coincidence it was held in Milan and Italy. It is not a fucking coincidence. GO LISTEN TO IT.

I guess best is to rely on news sites a little less if you want to calm your mood And there's a lot of good data/science/medical driven blogs, or (actual) scientists on Twitter.

The drastic measures are necessary because there's too much uncertainty. But more info/data comes available by the hour, and every specialism worldwide is working together at the moment, regardless of politics and money.

But there is also nuance in the facts (as we know them today). Italy publishes the underlying stats about the tolls there, as of yesterday 0,8% of (4000) deaths could be contributed to only Covid19. The median age was 80.5 and 97% had 2 or more underlying chronic diseases. To compare, in the regular Flu season of winter '18 a total of 25.000 excess deaths because of Influenza were recorded in italy.

The majority of the panic and repercussions stems from the fact that there was no data, only guessing. Let's hope more data comes available so more effective decisions can be made..
