1. Edge's anthem Fender Stratocaster for me. I'm partial to the Strat to begin with, but Streets just wouldn't sound right with anything else.
  2. His Gibson is my favourite, man that guitar is a hit-machine

True. That's how you can tell that their performance at Cannes was played along to a tape. Only Bono's vocals were live.

of course...why not? no one would notice since it was loud as hell (i suppose)

Drums are pretty loud without amplification. I though some cameras and recording equipment would pick up the sound from the muted drum

could be, but in "live" events sound is usually very loud, so i guess it's not a problem.

Or they "tune" it in a way you almost can't hear it, I think it's possible. I'm going to ask my brother in law when I see him, he plays the drums. Any drummer here?
  9. Well my favourite would be Stratocaster or Les Paul
    Though to decide
  10. What did he use for the album version of With or Without You? Also, what does he use on One Tree Hill and Party Girl?
  11. Some notes on Edge Explorer use:

It was used for most every track, if not everyone, on Boy. By October his black Stratocaster was getting more use; even on some songs that initially the Explorer was used.

It is still used live for older tunes like "I Will Follow", "Out of Control"...

There were times during the October and War tours where he's play a song on the Explorer one time and the black Stratocaster another time. Experiementing, perhaps, as he FINALLY had TWO electric guitars!

There is more than one Explorer. One is kept in E flat (for older tunes that are in E flat) and one in standard E for songs like "Miracle Drug".

It's seen action on every tour except PopMart.

The Edge used it for "Angel of Harlem", which I'd never seen him do, closing night of Vertigo, in Hawaii.

Latest tunes using the Explorer? "Miracle Drug", "New York", "Beautiful Day". The Edge used it for "UltraViolet (Light My Way)" during the ZOOTV / Zooropa tours.
  12. What did he use for the album version of With or Without You? Also, what does he use on One Tree Hill and Party Girl?

The album version of WITH OR WITHOUT YOU. There are more than just one guitar track on most of the tunes. He used a Squier Strat and the Brooks Infinite Guitar System for the sustained bits. There might be some of "Blackie" his ol' standby, the all black Stratocaster on some of the parts. LIVE he's used the Squier w/Brooks system, later during the ZOO tours he took to using a Les Paul Custom and an E-Bow for the sustain bits. Popmart saw him using one of two Fernandes Decade Elites with sustainer pickup. [Fernandes is noted for their perfecting the sustainer pickup idea.] For the Elevation tour, The Edge had a Fernandes Native Pro that was customized, adding Hot Rail pickups in the center and bridge, a bew pick guard was cut to accomodate the pickups and it had a Decade model neck. This guitar was destroyed when the studio was flooded back in 2002 when U2 were in N.O. playing the Super Bowl. (N. O. being the place of another famous/infamous flood). For the Vertigo tour, The Edge went to a Fernandes Retro Rocket - all stock, except the black finish was custom - with the sustainer pickup in the neck position.

ONE TREE HILL. In the studio, a few guitars were used. One was a BOND ELECTRAGLIDE. You can see/read more about this guitar on my site: http://u2-atomic-edge-gear.triopod.com

It is an unusual guitar, that Bond. It is what was used for the distorted bits near the end part of ONE TREE HILL in the studio.

LIVE The Edge used a tobacco sunburst Gibson 335, as seen on the Best of 1980-1990 VHS.

TRASH, TRAMPOLINE & THE PARTY GIRL. LIVE, The Edge used his Washburn EA40 Woodstock Festival Acoustic, as seen in the Red Rocks VHS. I am not certain what was used in the studio but it was likely the Washburn EA40 Woodstock Festival Acoustic.

    Hope this helps.
