The album version of WITH OR WITHOUT YOU. There are more than just one guitar track on most of the tunes. He used a Squier Strat and the Brooks Infinite Guitar System for the sustained bits. There might be some of "Blackie" his ol' standby, the all black Stratocaster on some of the parts. LIVE he's used the Squier w/Brooks system, later during the ZOO tours he took to using a Les Paul Custom and an E-Bow for the sustain bits. Popmart saw him using one of two Fernandes Decade Elites with sustainer pickup. [Fernandes is noted for their perfecting the sustainer pickup idea.] For the Elevation tour, The Edge had a Fernandes Native Pro that was customized, adding Hot Rail pickups in the center and bridge, a bew pick guard was cut to accomodate the pickups and it had a Decade model neck. This guitar was destroyed when the studio was flooded back in 2002 when U2 were in N.O. playing the Super Bowl. (N. O. being the place of another famous/infamous flood). For the Vertigo tour, The Edge went to a Fernandes Retro Rocket - all stock, except the black finish was custom - with the sustainer pickup in the neck position.
ONE TREE HILL. In the studio, a few guitars were used. One was a BOND ELECTRAGLIDE. You can see/read more about this guitar on my site: http://u2-atomic-edge-gear.triopod.com
It is an unusual guitar, that Bond. It is what was used for the distorted bits near the end part of ONE TREE HILL in the studio.
LIVE The Edge used a tobacco sunburst Gibson 335, as seen on the Best of 1980-1990 VHS.
TRASH, TRAMPOLINE & THE PARTY GIRL. LIVE, The Edge used his Washburn EA40 Woodstock Festival Acoustic, as seen in the Red Rocks VHS. I am not certain what was used in the studio but it was likely the Washburn EA40 Woodstock Festival Acoustic.
Hope this helps.
i didn't know that site was yours...it's really amazing.
by the way, are you sure that he used the old natural finish strat on the studio version of "in a little while"?? it sounds just like the les paul he used on live verions to my ears, but i am not that advanced on listening to guitar models.
