1. What the hell does F.O.A.D. mean? No matter. You can do it man. Just tell him you need to know, to impress other U2 fans.

F.OA.D. was Larry's favorite saying and was on the camoflage hat he wore during the ZOO tours.

What does it mean? F*CK OFF AND DIE.
  3. Nice. I oughta start saying it.
  4. Another question for our resident Edge expert (i.e. that means you Jeff! ) - did Edge record the main guitar part of The Fly on his cream LP custom? I know he "plays" it on the video (and the Elevation versions), just wondered whether he also recorded it on that...considering he played ZooTV versions on a Fender and Vertigo versions on the Line 6 Variax acoustic...

    Any thoughts?
  5. I dont suppose you know what year his tobaccoe sunburst 335 is? Also, does he use it on anything other than One Tree Hill?

I am not 100% certain on the vintage of that particular guitar. But I have word out for it. As soon as I hear, I will post it.

Shame he hasn't used that one more... It's a lovely guitar. I thought I heard that it made it on the last tour... but I am not 100% certain it was THAT ES335.

It's hard to say... I've not asked Dallas or Edge about that yet. It is on the laundry list of questions. And I've not read which guitars were used for that in any of the guitar magazine interviews.

It's also possible that some of the parts were the LP Custom and others another guitar. As most songs have more than one guitar track, they also have more than one guitar used.

As for The Fly video... the Les Paul Custom that is in The Fly video is not the 1975 LP Custom that was auctioned, it looks more like the other LP Custom (rumoured to be a 1973).

How to tell the two apart in pictures? The 1975 that was auctioned had gold knobs. The 1973(?) has black knobs. The 1973 was still pretty much white then. It's since faded to cream, as is the norm with white Gibsons. (Has to do with their finishing process)

ZOO TV version of The Fly was on the charcoal (Rene' Castro painted) 1989 Fender Eric Clapton Stratocaster. LOVE that guitar. I have a 1998 just like it - minus the Rene' Castro paint job.

And yes, the Vertigo tour was the Line 6 Variax 700 acoustic.

Here's the 10973 (vintage unconfirmed) during Zoo Station on the Vertigo tour:

The piccy below this is the 1975 Gibson LP Custom that The Edge auctioned last year:

And yes, the Vertigo tour was the Line 6 Variax 700 acoustic. Mostly the black one with the red Vertigo stickers... although if you look closely in the U2-3D movie... some shots during The Fly are the silver sparkle Line 6 Variax 700 (normally used for "Love And Peace") and some of the shots are of the black one; normal as the movie was shot from various shows.

Here's the black and red Variax (The Fly):

  9. Why dont you just ak Dallas for his email? I doubt he would give it, but if he did, we could have answers on demand.

Cheers chap, as ever, great work! Your efforts are definitely worth it, I think we'd all agree And re. the ZooTV Strat., that is one sexy beast of a guitar! Has that '73 LP been used on live stuff, would you happen to know? (Apologies for the constant stream of questions but I can't help myself ...)

Jeff would be out of a job in no time! We can't have that! Plus I have a feeling Dallas would get a bit freaked out by his internet crashing 24/7 due to the enormous amounts of e-mails along the lines of "how much delay does Edge use on "A Day Without Me"?!" etc.!)

  11. Good points.

  12. The 1973 has been used. ZOO STATION during Vertigo is the one that stands out on the top of my mind. I'm sure I can find more. (I'm good like that)

Yeah - no putting me outta a job! (hahahaha). I have a list. And Dallas has answered basic questions in the past. Well more than basics... but it isn't like he's going to give exact signal path and effects settings. After all, there is such a thing as a "confidentiality agreement" that all techs and U2 staff sign (common practice in most bands) But in that, he has been good about answering questions about a certain effect, amp, guitar... and the like.
