I bought the U2 iPod (photo) and it was excellent, solid and reliable as a concrete paver, until the battery needed to be replaced - which I tried to do myself, but must have snapped a wire off and therefore it no longer works. You can get them on Apple's refurbished site quite cheap. I wouldn't trust eBay though. The videos (30-60GB) are good as well.

I now have an iPod classic and it is the worst piece of crap I've ever used, and a serious waste of hard-earned money (and I was warned against it). The sound sucks, the click-wheel is completely loose, the hold button doesn't even hold, the menu sucks, the interface is shit, iTunes is very quickly becoming ultimately crap, there's enhancements which no person wants and it scratches up like a lottery ticket - oh yeah, and the screen is glass as well so it cracks and scratches quite well, no longer plastic. Save your money and go for a Creative or a Zune - I know I will be.
