Also, note that your countrie is probally out of all the places that America may have a war with in the next ten years, the one I'd least like to be deployed to for combat.

You probably don't get to choose where you're being deployed, that's one.
Second, if you're going to sign up at the military by saying "it would be kinda cool to be in the only American spec-ops unit that specializes in Combat-Search-and-Rescue, instead of blowing shit up", good chance they won't enlist you.....

(although I woulnd't mind visiting it as a tourist someday if things calms down. Iran has a rich culture) Korea, or China would probally suit me better as far as climates I'm most comfortable in go. I know I would have no real say in the matter, just saying.

On your note of not being intrested in military jobs, dont you have to be a fanatic to be in your countries military? (or at least for certain units)

It doesn't matter where you'd like to be deployed, they'll send you anywhere they like, but what's up with Iran's climate?

About your question, not necessarily. Yes, some units only recruit fanatics, also the revolutionary guard is ALL fanatics, but the military...yes, every government related job requires you to obey the supreme leader, but you don't have to be a fanatic. One of my family members is a marine, and he's anti-government.
But, I meant military in general, I mean, even if I was an American, I wouldn't join the american military, I have issues with that job.
  3. Iran: Basij member describes election abuse

    Updated on 16 December 2009

    By Channel 4 News

A defecting member of the infamous Basij militia, the men who wounded and killed in the aftermath of the Iran elections in the summer, talks to Lindsey Hilsum about what he witnessed.

"I've lost my world and I've lost my religion" - the words of a former Iranian Basij militia member who says he witnessed killings and tried to stop rapes during the uprising that followed the disputed Presidential election in June.

After months of stories by witnesses and victims, we are now getting a picture of what went on by a man who claims he was part of the group ordered to carry out attacks.

He is now seeking refuge in the UK and has spoken exclusively to Channel 4 News about the orders the Basij were given to ensure President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the election.

In her blog, Lindsey Hilsum wrote: "Maybe the most convincing authentification we have is that his story confirms the reports we've had from victims and human rights groups, who say rape has been used all over Iran in the brutal months since the June election. That and his desperation. Rarely have I interviewed someone so distressed."

Why not? You know, that not all the military is a bunch of cold-blooded steely-eyed killers. For the record, i do enjoy blowing shit up. I just would enjoy saving people more, and the main reasons I would be trying for it, would be the challenge, and because I'm an adrenaline junkie. The being the only search-and-rescue unit thing, is more the kind of thing I'd point out to my liberal friends at my class-reunion when they acuse me of being a baby-killer.
  5. Aaron, if you like adrenaline, try out bungee jumping instead of risking your life.

I understand. I know many a person, who would never join, and there reasons are as diffrent as each person. Some are pacifist, while others despise the military industrial complexe. Personally The main reason I have decided I'm going to enlist, is because I lack the money for college, love my countrie, and it might be a good experience. The reasons for wanting to try out for Pararescue have alredy been listed.

I have no problemns with Irans climate. Its just, in a combat situation, you take any advantage you can get. Fighting on terrain you feel comfortable on, is definintly an advantage, and I figure at least some parts of China, and Korea from the pictures I've seen remind me of Michigan, although I do realize, I have no say in the matter.

I actually admire some of your reasons for joining...don't take what I said as criticism to your decision, as I said, you gotta do what makes you feel good and you enjoy doing, and you seem to love this job, so why doubt it?
I'm not anti-military, but I just can't imagine working in that environment, and yes, I can't imagine shooting people even if it's bin laden. I know what you're saying involves more rescuing than killing people, that's why I said I admire it.

And I was just kidding about the climate, but do check out iran's climate as well, Iran is a big country with different climates and different terrain. We are famous in the middle east as the 4-season country, because at ANY time of the year, you can find weather associated with each season, in some part of the country. And the terrain, well, we have from huge snow-filled mountains to hot deserts, to sand beaches to grassy hills...I'm not saying all these to convince you to come here with your military friends you know! But you really might wanna visit as a tourist some day. I'm off-topic here, excuse the Persian pride kick-in.

  8. You know that the odds of any given deployed military member getting killed, are actually fairly low. Especially compared to past conflicts. At Omaha beach, thousands of men died in just a few hours. I'm not saying its either a good thing, or a bad thing, but America has definintly lost its stomach for fighting. Its kinda a mixed blessing.

Technically I cant love it, since I haven't joined yet. I think you may have misunderstood me, as it sounds like you think I have alredy joined. This actually has happened to me severael times regarding various topics both on the net, and in the real world. I remeber I was once telling someone how U2 is better live, and they assumed, I had seen them live multiple times, when I haden't. I'm planning on enlisting sometime next year. I just need to get in shape first. I also need to improve my swimming skills if I want to make it in Pararescue. I do have lots of friends who are either current or ex military so that does work though. (2 Army, 2 Marines) Even if I joined today, it takes almost two years of training to get qualified in that career field, since Pararescuemen have to be qualified in virtually every kind of insertion technique that the military has to offer, as well as mediacl training.

In any case, I have some stuff I need to take care of with my family and friends before I enlist. I never go off half-cocked, and I dont like leaveing stuff unfinished.

I know you're not a cold blooded killer. And that's definitely not what I meant.
But when you are at a job interview for the military at some point, you might want to go over your choice of words prior to the interview. And I must agree with Yuri here that when you're an adrenaline junkie you could easily choose another profession and not put your life on the line, just by looking for that same adrenaline with the military.
And I don't know if you're aware of the number of people who got killed in Iraq in the meantime? So please stop referring to things like Omaha beach where people got killed that could have been your grand-grandfather and you probably only read about in books or seen something on Discovery channel. There are people who lost fathers, brothers, sisters, friends or whatever loved ones in Iraq, so don't talk about "losing stomach"...it's most definitely VERY insulting and painful to those who lost someone recently.

Mountain- or sea rescue probably gives you just as much adrenaline, BTW....

I'd just like to say thank you for saying that
