1. The Saab deal came in to late. There was lots of pressure to quite the JSF project, but quitting would've been expensive as well. They shouldnt quit now.

My motto is: nobody makes it better than yourself. It doesnt always hold, but if you try you never know. We lack the 'pride' to do these things ourselves. Of course it costs a shitload of money, but the money would be spend here. Not somewhere else.

Lots of knowledge is seeping out The Netherlands because we lack the attitude to do things ourselves. If we and other EU countries only had a bit of pride like the French then we'd have a whole fleet already. Maybe not the best fighter, but definetely a competitive one.

Might look up the A-12 later. Always cool those fighter planes. Plus it is a bit in my line of study
  2. Is anyone here planning on becoming involved in politics?

I like the French Rafale. Say what you want about them They make nice planes.

Has your country ever had an indegiously produced fighter? If I recall, your AFs current inventory is mostely F-16 Block20s, that have been upgraded.

Personally, if all else fails, I'd probally just go with newer F-16s. The Block 60 is practically an entirely new plane.

Course aircraft procurement is handeled by faceless bureaucrats, who want to get the most out of there lowest bidder awarded, you scrath my back, I'll scratch yours contracts.

In other words its just like how the government does everything.

Edit: How are fighter planes in your line of study? Just wondering?
  4. I'll be involved in avoiding politics.

To frustrating if you have the will to change things but you hit the wall because >100 others have other opionins

    Poli: Greek for many.
    Tics: Small blood sucking insects.

I think I might be onto something here.
  6. Countrys which cannot maintain a local arms industry, will always have to rely on the will of other countrys for governemnts most basic function. The protection of the citezenry.
  7. I am studying Mechanical Engineering. So not planes specific, but engineering in the most general perspective.

Share many courses with the Aviation Mechanics though. They'll have more fluid dynamics and more specific courses.

Mechanics aint my kind of thing really. I'm more of a computer guy. Hence, the reason I'm into fighter planes, is more the avionics.
  9. Interesting! I think I'll end up in computer technology eventually, I like it better and I am more interested in it.

Mechatronics is a cool part of mechanical engineering though

In High School I took classes in PC repair, and website design. I also took a basic electrician course. I know enough that I can read a schematic properly, which is good, since reading one improperly, can be a painful experience.
  11. Since some of you may recall me posting, that I did alot of speech/debate/acting in High School, I'll just clear it up once and for all.

In school I had very diverse intrest and took virtually every, and any class I could. Auto repair. First aid. Electricity repair. PC repair. Psychology. Sociology. Acting. Impromptu speaking. You name it, I took it.
  12. I didnt take any courses, but learned it myself. Do know a bit of electronics as well. Should be able to decipher parts of schematics.

Fun to play with opamps, capacitors and resistors though
