1. i don't think anyone misses popmart, nice screen but the rest did nothing for me, especially the way too many songs from pop being played, the lemon was cool though and I did like the reworking of songs like "Bullet" and "Streets". But if U2 really bring back "hold me thrill me..." and "trying to throw..." i will be able to close my eyes and put myself back at the popmart and Zoo tv tours with ultimate delight. PLEASE U2, please keep those songs in the rest of the 360 shows.
    PS
and to open this leg of 360 with Beautiful Day will be AWESOME!!!!!

You haven't been a fan as long as most of the people on this board, i'm guessing.

    Lot's of people miss Popmart.

    The show had guts.
  3. Yes, it did. Zoo TV is my personal myth, though. I'm still bewildered by the transition from the Christian preachers folkish and bluesish of the late 80's to, well, how to define U2 in the early 90's? A provocative, innovative and hugely successful band. What a change in not even 2 years.

another drastic change like that is long overdue imo...

  5. I've thought of this myself, but where else is there for them to go?
There's no music scene today as exciting as Madchester for them to be inspired by.

i dont think you can credit madchester as the sole influence for their creativity in the 90's (not that i'm suggesting thats what your saying!) 'madchester' was effectively already dead by the time they started recording AB and the only song i can see a strong influence on is possibly MW..?

if you look at AB, zooropa, passengers and pop they all take influences from vastly different areas of music, none of which were as commercial and well known as the madchester scene. and many of which would probably be considered underground and niche. zooropa = electro/dance/industrial influences. passengers = ambient/atmospheric. pop = techno/electro/dance/godknowswhat influences!

as for where they can go next - as long as it isn't where they've been stuck for the last 10 years i don't really care! go back to somewhere simillar to where they were in the 90's again and i'd be happy! after all when ATYCLB came out everyone saw it as them returning to where they were in the 80's!

i just think that they've proved they can be the biggest band ever - why do they need to worry about maintaining that?! for me in the 90's U2 was the ultimate band for re-invention, every album was different, you never knew where or what they were going to come up with next and it was bloody exciting being a U2 fan and THAT was the reason i loved being a U2 fan! they just have NOT been that band for these last 10 years and its killing me....

    i really love this thread
