1. On topic, I installed google chrome the other day Its image saving system sucks, but I like the rest.
  2. got a problem you guys...

my pc (vista, 4GB RAM, quad 2,3GHz) is running wild for no apparent reason. got some usual stuff running like the internet explorer, msn, gdata internet security. minor stuff, actually, but the thing gets LOUD, internet gets stuck/slow, cursor reacts slowly as if I was trying to play some monster game or run a big ass programme. I think it's because of bittorrent, but then again, why would it make so much trouble? it never did before, I certainly would have noticed. scanner shows no viruses or the like.

pcs not old at all, got it in november. so, hardware-wise everything should be fine, I think. any tips?

I don't know much about computers, but heres what I would do.
    -Run disk cleanup
    -Run disk defragmenter

Do you have malwarebytes anti-malware? It might be better than your current anti-virus, Its what I use.
It wouldn't be bittorrent(I use utorrent and have never gotten a virus that way) Maybe the torrent search engines, or are you pirating software? Hope I helped

    Try:

    - turning off Windows Defender

    - uninstalling GData Internet Security, use Windows Firewall (it's good enough in Vista) and use something less resource-intensive like Avira.

    - updating to the latest Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 3

    - doing a Disk Cleanup or Disk Defragmenter as mentioned.

    - using uTorrent or a different BitTorrent program - a lot have issues with Vista.

    - check the fan isn't clogged with dust and give the computer a general clean inside.

    - download Spybot and see if anything comes up with that.

    - run HihackThis and do a scan, saving the log file.

    - checking Task Manager for any huge memory uses

  5. Ah yes, you're right. So it is.

  6. It's funny how as soon as I posted that..I had the feeling the iPhone would somehow come out as top priority. Sadly, it did. : /

But on a brighter note, my good friend has AT&T and offered me to use her SIM to 'activate' the iPhone. Unsure if it will work, all I need to get to is pass that screen, which probably only scares people off or coaxes them into getting AT&T. Long story short, I should have an iPhone either by the end of this week or the next. 8)
  7. thanks gwiz and drew awesome tips!

figured out what it was: the gdata firewall! turned it off and the windows wall on, now it's purring like a kitten again what's annoying though: the gdata programme only lets me turn the wall off until the next boot, so every day I have to change the adjustments again. oh well, there could be worse, I guess.

    thanks for the help!
  8. There you go, glad it helped. And to gwiz as well for helping.
  9. So apparently The Man is out to get me once more. Iphone no contract? 599 and 699 for their respective models. eBay and craigslist just became my best friends now.

This is why the folks at Apple and AT&T are cons...U2 Blackberry for the win
  10. I'm having some problems with my desktop. Everyday the sound icon dissapears, I go to control panel and check the box to put it on the bar at the bottom, and it reappears. Next time I turn it off te box gets unchecked. Anyone know why?
