Just installed my iPad 2, next-gen.. Looks a lot smaller in white, nice smart cover. I'm glad it's more lightweight than the iPad 1, much more easy to read longer times.
Thinking of picking up an N900. The N8 is staying forever but I fancy something different on the side. Have been thinking tablet but an N900 could be as much fun.
I think the N900 is a step back from all modern phones now.
The device is pretty much dead, only a few hardcore developers are still making stuff for it. There is a community firmware now that solves a few frustrating issues. And then there is Android: Nitdroid (android for nokia internet tablets). That still doesnt have call/sms functionality though, but I am quite sure that will come one day.
The biggest plus of the N900 is the software architecture. Lots of linux programs could work in theory if someone mods them to build on the phone.
For geeks like me it is still pretty cool. Remote commandline (SSH) to install apps from my pc. Easy overclocking, lots of mods / hacks possible.
But I think every Android can do the same, I wouldnt advice you buying it. Its a dated phone which had loads of potential instead of hard features.
It's the hardware I want. I'm looking to buy used aswell and not wanting to spend a fortune. Slightly behind the times is no problem as it won't be my main device. I want touch plus slide siding full qwerty. The N97 is too similar to the N8, Android alternatives are expensive (Desire Z) which leaves something like the N900. It has the form factor and the different software set at a reasonable used prices.
Ok using it as secundary device makes much more sense!
Its not a bad phone at all, just I wouldnt recommend anyone to spend lots of cash on
When you have it you should install Rockbox and Opera and BlessN900.
Ati85 is a great calculating app. It emulates the TI graphing calc series.
It should do xvid etc out of the box but there is a codec pack in the app manager for flac and other codecs. Although Rockbox is the best p,tion for audio
