1. Firefox 4 is out and working. The first glance reveals a cleaner and smaller interface, more like Google Chrome. I like it. Loading time has improved too, but I have only opened it once so far, so I can't really give an insight on that.
  2. Still slower than all other browsers (IE9 included).

I made the switch to Chrome a while back. Using IE9 for hotmail since pinned to the taskbar you can access a couple of features directly. Also you see a overlay in your taskbar on new mail.

For development I still use FF4 once in a while, but even that is becoming rare.
  3. Because Windows Help is fucking useless and I trust you guys way more.

Got a Windows 7 laptop at the moment, Windows Media Player won't play CDs I put it, nor is it able to rip them whereas it used to only a couple of months ago. It recognises the CDs and the tracks etc., e.g. I just put in a Corrs CD (judge me not) and it recognised the tracks, album artwork etc., but when I click on play, the playback 'timeline' icon thing, i.e. the bit that moves when you play music files, goes along, but I get no sound, and then after a moment a cross appears by the track name on the playlist bar, and it skips to the next track. When I highlight the cross, it says 'see error details', so I click on it, but nothing further comes up. I don't have any issues playing audio files e.g. music already on the hard-drive, bootlegs etc., but it won't play or rip CDs. I've yet to see whether I have the same trouble with DVDs, but at this point does anyone have any idea if it could be a software problem and if so, any pointers?

(I'm not ruling out something having been inadvertently whacked at some point of late, but can't recall any such moment)

    Tah in advance.
  4. Can you play CDs using VLC (to rule out drive defect) ?

i need help with this matter, ive always used IE but lately it has been so slow, i upgraded to IE9 and still have the same problem. sometimes the pages load straight away, other times they take up to 30seconds. what i dunt understand though is that while all this is happening ive got utorrent open which is still going at fast speeds

will changing to Firefox or google chrome fix this, cheers for any advice guys.
  6. Hard to say what the cause is. Easiest way is to just try out another browser. If that doesnt help there are several possible causes.

Your first mistake was using IE.

If your machine is light on power, you'd be better off with Chrome. I like FF (not 4!) but when it's loaded up with extensions it's a bit of a resource hog.

are browsers easy to get rid of though, like if i got chrome and it didnt fix the issue could i go back to IE9 without too much hassle

my machine is a beast so running firefox should be fine. Chrome vs FF which is easier to use?
  10. Easy to uninstall

Anyway all modern browsers are pretty competetitve speed-wise. So just pick one.

  11. Considering the newer IE versions copy the FF interface pretty heavily, you'd probably find FF easier to get used to. The best thing about FF is how customisable it is and all the nifty shit you can do with extensions (save videos, audio, block ads, block cookies/scripts, etc etc). If you like setting your machine up exactly how you like it, then FF is for you.
