It's doing it but it's slow. 10gb mkv to iPad mp4 > 49 minutes in and still an hour to to. Using Handbrake

Why don't you use an app instead of converting? I'm using AvPlayer HD (no jailbreaking requred) on my iPad 2 and there is no more converting needed, it plays all sorts of files including mkv. Also plays usual subtitle formats without problems.
