What happens is IP addresses run in a 'range' type setup. For example, say your IP address is 187.98.87.12 - anyone who has a similar IP address like 187.98.87.13 is likely to be downloading something from a server with a similar IP addres and it confuses the 12 for the 13. It wouldn't matter because the first three sets of numbers are being used and that's what RapidShare goes on. There are some other suggestions to get around the problem:

That one won't work if your IP address is fixed. To check in Windows:
Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection (right-click) > Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) > Properties. If Obtain IP address automatically is checked then you will have to wait; otherwise you can change your IP at will.

You could also try using AltaVista.com and click BabelFish. Translate the web page from Japanese to English - this has worked for me several times before.
About the wired vs wireless connections - if the two are sharing the same or similar IP address which they most likely can (is one or the other or both connected at the same time?) then one might be tripping up the other.
Originally posted by drewhigginsJust the modem by itself, that should do it. Before you do, check the IP address and see the one after has changed. Otherwise, it could be you need to restart the computer with the modem switched off, then switch the modem back on and you should have a fancy new IP.
I was looking for anonymous proxy servers, but most don't get past RapidShare or Megaupload (but Megaupload is a lot fairer in restrictions - it usually allows about 4 or 5 200MB downloads until it makes you wait half a day or so, which is excellent.

Using that Network Connections screen I told you about earlier, you could find a good IP from a list:
http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html
http://proxy.org/cgi_proxies.shtml
http://www.freeproxylists.com/
http://www.freshproxy.org/
http://proxy-list.org/en/
And put one of those many ones in the boxes (but take note of your current one, just in case).
