  1. I don’t know. If the membership had a lot of perks, amazing digital content, etc then maybe. But since the “gift” is basically the only thing you’re getting, a 50 DVD is a total ripoff.

  6. I still think it’s a good gift if it’s the only physical release of the show . Also It will be well worth it’s money in terms of resale value at around £30 to renew as well if that’s the case. I wouldn’t sell it but I won’t be surprised to see it selling for more than that on eBay especially once it no longer is available to chose as a subscription gift. I know a brand new dvd in the shop maybe sells for around £15 so in that respect it would be good if the site offered a little more in the way of content. Some full live videos from shows or some live tracks to download but compared to other gifts we’ve had this is about as much value for money as the best of them , if it’s not generally released physically elsewhere.

    ...but you know it's going to be released for purchase. On DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K Blu-Ray, digital, etc.

    The best you can hope for here is some additional content that won't be released elsewhere.
  9. Even if it is the only official release, for me it is still completely worthless. A DVD looks terrible in my setup and won't support this kind of releases, as they couldn't spend less than an additional dollar to provide options to customer. Probably the only thing this could be good for is to extract the audio (which I'll have to get somewhere as I do not own any computer with an optical drive anymore).But as a video, a DVD is worthless to me, which is why I decided I won't renew unless I hear they offer a Blu-Ray option, or at least an official HD download.

    I used to go to record fayres back in the day and I’ve paid more than the membership fee for some video camera popmart gigs, when this stuff wasn’t readily available. So I consider a full pro shot gig as fantastic
  12. Let's investigate another example of U2's releases when it comes to fans vs average consumer.

    The version of From the Sky Down that came with the Uber Deluxe Achtung Baby anniversary set was the short version (and on DVD) - and the Blu Ray that came out shortly later was the full/extended version. The version that came with a $400 set wasn't the full version, and it wasn't on the highest quality format - but the one that anybody could buy was the "better" version. Tell me how the fuck that makes sense, other than U2 wanting to squeeze even more money out of the people willing to already spend 400 bucks on that uber set. The funny part is, the "full" version is the one that was originally televised, meaning it was done - ready to go.

    I'm not saying this is the rule of thumb, but do you really believe what you're saying? It'd make absolutely no sense for them to release a shittier version commercially afterwards.

    They're straight up giving this as the gift because A) it's incredibly cheap to produce DVDs, B) the work is already done in terms of getting this thing edited and ready for release because C) they're going to be releasing it on Blu-Ray in stores because they want to make more money off of it, and finally D) it means they didn't have to think of a gift for this year. They thought "shit, let's just give them this, it's ready to go and they'll be happy with it." - "Oh, but we have ___ subscribers, do you want to spend ____ giving them all blu rays? or ____ (significantly smaller amount) to give them DVDs?" - "DVDs - they'll be happy with that."

    There's no way this doesn't come out later in the year in higher quality formats, and at a lower price than a subscription to U2.com. Honestly, even if they were giving us a blu ray - it's still kind of bullshit to me. Give something to the fans that's exclusive to the fan club, c'mon.

    I'm also certain that it's not actually U2 making these decisions, they probably have a team who handles it - but that's not really a good excuse to me, they're still at the top and this is still a bunk way to treat fans who want to shell out money for your fan club.
