I think I'm in the same camp in as far as I think the ZooTV versions were the best, BUT that said the Vertigo and Elevation formats come a close second. It's just an uber song for me however it's played. I do think it just looks better when Edge played the Strat., the Variax doesn't really do it for me...
I like the Clapton Strat, as mentioned,

but I thought the Vertigo versions with the Variax

were better than the Elevation versions with the Les Paul. (Variax is an interesting and versatile guitar - I love it!)
Although, that said, it wasn't the guitar so much as it could have been the effects settings used on the Vertigo tour. It just seemed that he got a more 'gritty' distortion tone on the Vertigo tour than on the Elevation tour.

but yeah, there's a much different feel. THAT said, each version of the Fly from Elevation sounds different, I mean compare the Cleveland version to Boston 09/06/2001, and there's a very different feel...
