The interview is certainly several weeks old, if not older. Word is, that they passed the recording sessions to France as they were not happy with some songs, though. That might be true, that might be not true.
Even if we get a release in 2009, it would probably be early in the year. Some sources point to January. So, November - January not that much of a difference.

    60 long, long days...

  4. Well, IF the album comes in January, it's very likely that we'll have a single before christmas, maybe also something like i-tunes vouchers for the album with an extra song in December, maybe something with the (RED) portal. Lots of goodies possible.

    Or a simple November release.
  5. i would be VERY extremely shocked if the album didnt come before x-mas, as there are obvious reasons for putting it out before the big shopping season

these days, more than ever, you have to be real careful how and when you release singles and albums, as they spread like wild fire across the web in moments.

there's still plenty of time for an announcement sometime in Sept, then a mid October single building up to a November release. if there is still no news by end of this month then we'll have something to discuss

But we all know they shouldn't rush it...We know Pop...
  7. The Christmas market seems to be too much of a money spinner for U2 not to cash in on. If its gonna be a January release I hope they do the odd promo/rehearsal gig before Christmas and use them to debut the new stuff. Would be great but not likely

There are alternate ways to milk the christmas cow. The download vouchers I mentioned are only one way. Portishead did it the same way, they're also signed by Universal...

Yep, one of the best records they ever made.

  9. lol....I agree with you on that, but what could it have been if they had more than enough time to really finish it?

Judging by the "new" versions, they would have made it worse.

  11. You mean the new mixes from Discotheque, SATS and Gone? Personally I like those (except for SATS) better than the original, but everyone to his own....

true. but for U2 the bulk of album sales will be traditional, as McGuiness has recently stated, the band still sells a ton of CDs, physical ones...and those are huge for the holidays, as they can be wrapped in pretty paper and put under the tree
