  1. Indeed. Every U2 fan has his expectations but for the 'outsider', the general music lover, the new album will be great whatsoever and it will be awarded again. It depends of your style preference.

    Some U2 fans like all the songs, but they really love Joshua Tree, Rattle And Hum and Unforgettable Fire. So if the boys make another JT'ish album (which will not happen) they will say it's one of the best U2-albums. And the same counts for the Pop, Zooropa and AB style. If they make another album in that style (which will not happen)... fill in the gaps.

    Oh did I just say ''which will not happen'' twice? Yeah. U2 will never repeat themselves. Same counts for the upcoming tour. It will be totally new.

    I will be absolutely stunned if they make a double-album. I'm wondering how they will set up a great setlist for the shows.... By example you can't skip The Fly

    HTDAAB is a great album. Sure, 1-2 tracks are alright, but that doesn;t mean the album is alright. Remember now, quite a few singles came from it. About 5 songs were singles, and all of them made the charts one way or another. Eight Grammys kinda makes it hard to call it an alright record.
    Now for ATYCLB. Its a very good album. Another album with 3 alright tracks, but as I said before, that doesn't define the album. 4 singles and all of them did well. 7 grammys. Do I need to say more? Plus if other people actually listen to Kite and hear the words they might like the song instead of clinging to their radios for their next song of the moment. 2009 will belong to U2.

    Just remember if U2 comes up with more than 80 mins worth of material it has to be a double album. The average song is 4 minutes. That's 20 songs. Something tells me they've come up with 21.


    If you take awards and the number of single releases as an indicator for the quality of an album, you're certainly right, no doubt about that.
    I just use my personal taste as indicator, that's where the "alright" rating comes from. The last 2 albums have 2 great songs each, some so-so, some crap.

    IF they come up with 80 minutes a double album is likely. But I doubt they will.

  7. Me too. I think we're going to get the usual 11-12 songs.

    But they better be good songs.

    A double album might mean an even longer delay until the album after that. More songs = larger tour extravagaza, longer rest period after, longer time needed to come up with an entirely new sound/tour concept.

    I wouldn't mind to see a good record containing 12 songs or so. Start the tour, play the songs, blow some roofs off and kick ass on stage...after a period of, let's say, 2 years...they release the rest and the best of their material, giving us their final and last album. They continue the on-going tour, change the name to Farewell-tour, play Rotterdam 5 nights, continue rocking for 2 years with some breaks and end their career on a lovely rainy, Irish night in Dublin, somewhere in the middle of the city where everyone can see and hear them. Let's hope we all can be there too.

  10. Yea I hate to say it but I can see their career coming to an end. A good end, an end by choice. They've done so much already, and to see them do like 5 more albums would just be nuts. You always hear them talking about how their goal is to write their best album, the best music they can write. Lately, ( the past 2 or 3 years) we have all heard Bono and Edge say "We think we're getting close to completing our goal" so I don't think it will be too long before our boys decide to play the farewell tour.

  12. And what's the problem with farewell? Man, people die every day, everything on this life comes to an end. Why not U2? Sincerely I prefer they quit up with a great album and a great tour, instead of touring eternally without any sense (Rolling Stones) ... The only I'd be sad about is that many many many fans would (will, probably) not see their idols playing live... But life is life
