  3. Hey, new forum member here. I'm Franck, live in NJ, USA and I'm an alcoholic, i mean Im optimistic about U2! I wana add that even into their 60s they could stop touring and keep writing music. The beatles stopped touring very early on. Fan since 2000!

    Being a fan of the band for me doesn't mean that I have to blindly enjoy everything that has the label U2. I've followed this band for about 20 years now, have seen them live multiple times, cheered for them and spent a fortune on official releases, concert tickets, travelling costs, taping equipment and servers that hosted the fan forums I managed over the years.
    So, if I now say, I don't like song x or album y or the non musical Bono, does that make me less of a fan???
  6. Still at the top of their game? Thats nuts. Nobody's writing the boys off. Just judging my thought on the last 2 albums asell as Bono's direction with his other activities I can't see them keeping that spark inside me lit. I think they have just found that sweet spot where they can put put an album, sell 12m, tour it for a while then take it easy. I cant see where their personal motovation will come from to do something spwecial if they know that anything they put out will rake in the $.
  7. Jeese i'd love them to deliver though. It's been a lengthy affair and I dnt yet want to trade them in for a newer, younger model.

    Exactly, U2 is more commercial than ever. Untill Joshua/Zoo, they had to proove themselves, they don't have to now. I'm a fan since 1999, loved ATYCLB, but when looking back to it, I admit it wasn't their best by far. From all U2 music, I mostly listen to their early stuff from 1980 till 1992. Doesn't say I ignore Vertigo or Elevation or that I don't like it, but I'm afraid we'll never see the U2 again from 1992 or earlier.

    Don't agree with you but support your right to say it! I think it's understood that all of us here are die-hard fans and that we're allowed to be critical from time to time. We may overplay our bitching and moaning but it's an indicator of how obsessive we are. We want U2 to be the best that they can be. For the record, late 80's, early 90's was the high spot for me.
  12. as I said, criticism is ok by all means, but it's just too much from time to time, in my opinion. saying that their really good times are over is a bit too much of a judgement, you simply can't state that as fact. you don't know what's about to come, you don't know how u2 really thinks about making a new album. a bit of faith in them every now and then wouldn't hurt and it's not like they've been crap the last 8 years, why does every album have to be groundbreaking? that's a bit too much to ask of them, no one's at the top of their game 24/7 all of their lives
