    Matt is very much a typical rocker, who seems more interested in making noise than music.

    I've listened through Origin of Symmetry and Absolution so far. Songs that I remember liking are Bliss, Hysteria and Feeling Good and Plug in Baby (except for the lyrics) the other ones all sound sort of indistinct.




    I simply have trouble listening to Radiohead. They have some great songs, but most of their catalogue annoys the hell out of me, mainly because of Yorke's singing. For example, Faust Arp makes me feel sick. Muse have a 'harder' sound and Matt sings with more agression, that's why I like Muse better. Both of them are very talented bands, though.

    Gotta love this discussion...the comparison Muse/Radiohead is the same one as the comparison U2/Coldplay and the comparison Oasis/Blur and the comparison The Beatles/Pink Floyd and the comparison The Police/UB40 etc etc etc

    I agree with you, Radiohead are very hard to listen to.
    But when Radiohead gets it right, they generally do it better than Muse (again this is only after 1 listen of OoS and Absolution, have yet to listen to BHaR)

    So far I haven't heard a Muse song as good as say Karma Police or Fake Plastic Trees.

    I also feel while Thom's lyrics are cryptic and depressing (and that's only once you decipher his wailing) they are generally better than Matt's which are quite silly (like most rock bands) which gives their music a "full of sound of fury, yet signifying nothing" feel.

    They don't seem to have the genius melodies of bands like the Killers, U2, Coldplay etc either.
    (Starlight is their only song whose verse melody struck me as outstanding)
  4. I am new to muse, I have just got Absolution and Black Holes and Revelations to listen to.

    The song "Sing for Absolution" is fantastic, love the video as well. I really really love this song.

    The album of Black Holes & Revelation is also great, "Super Massive", "Map of the Problematique" and "Starlight" are favourites.

    I can really recommend giving them a listen., sounds a bit like Radiohead in some songs, but you can hear the Killers, Pinkfloyd and lots of 80's keyboards but mixed with 90's grungey guitar. (Absolution came out before the Killers Hot Fuss, so you could say the Killers sound like Muse.)

    I will give their Wembley DVD a whirl as soon as I get my hands on it.

    In my honest opinion, Muse don't sound like any other band. The Radiohead comparisons make no sense. Matt and Thom are extremely different singers. Thom could never use vibrato like Matt. And the music isn't comparable. Muse brought electronic, dance, alternative, grunge and rock together. Radiohead brought electronic together with alternative. Now the Killers? I kind of understand the backing keyboard during the choruses in "Map," but other than that, nothing.

    And whoever said that Thom is a better lyricist should consider Language Arts lessons. Matt goes way over the top, in an eloquent manner. Thom does neither.

    In my opinion, RH lyrics have more depth than Muse´s and that´s why I like it more, I also find Thom´s voice more haunting.... and that´s why I liked it. But that´s just my opinion and taste. As for mixing styles I disagree with you... If you see Radiohead had grunge songs in the beginning (were called Nirvana-light) and prog rock, later they experimented more with new effects beginning kind of electronica (OK Computer), in Amnesiac and Kid A they innovated a lot with the Ondes Martenot, jazz songs (Life in a glasshouse) and techno beat songs like Idioteque. Later then they brought classic music (In Rainbows). I see ,much more than just Alternative + Electronica and much more experimenting than muse. But the most ballsy album ever was POP

    Just trying to get my point across, don´t wanna star a bad discussion, just friendly!

    Matt Bellamy isnt exactly a poet, nevermind Thom Yorke, he isnt even as good as Brandon Flowers and he's prettty sloppy himself.

    And it is pretty much universally agreed that Matt Bellamy imitates Thom Yorke's music style, critics, press, fans and even Yorke himself have said as much.

    I like the killers as a singles band, Muse overall, and used to love Radiohead. Does that count?
