1. I think it's good. Not keen on Midnight or A Sky Full of Stars, but I do like the rest of it upon first listen.
  2. The thing I don't understand is how they called True Love their favorite song theyve ever written. Lyrically on paper it looks like it could be an outstanding song, but the way it fits in with the music and the way its sung sounds like it could be a song in some musical play performance. Not a fan of that one yet.

Ink, on first listen, wasn't one of my favorites, but now that I've listened all the way through a few times it is realllllly catchy. Otherwise, I'm a fan of the rest of the album, especially "O".
  3. I hear the new Coldplay album on i-tunes. I fall asleep.Wallpapermusic. No magic at all.

I for one am enjoying the new songs, the change of tone and the darkness. It's not better than the first couple of albums for me, but it's definitely better than the last couple.
I really like the direction Chris's lyrics and singing style are taking. The album overall and when listened as a whole 'works'.

I agree. The album should be listened to as a whole. When I first heard Midnight it threw me off a bit and I wondered in what direction the band was going in but listening to with the other eight new tracks it works and fits in nicely.
  5. Part of the review from NME. What do you guys think of the comparisons?

They've gone in eyes open, intending to adjust both sound and position, and it's a familiar strategy. There's always been a touch of the U2s about Coldplay's trajectory, from the vertiginous climb to the stadium big league to, naturally, the hiring of Brian Eno's fairydust talents. Compared album by album, it might go something like this: 'X&Y' was as complacent as 'Rattle & Hum', 'Viva La Vida' — with its knowing "Enoxification", lively embrace of pure pop and awareness of its surroundings — was as seminal as 'Achtung Baby'. Neatly, we can call the 'Prospekt's March' their 'Zooropa', while 'Mylo Xyloto' was 'Pop' from every angle, all shrill, disjointed highs, little triangles of bunting in search of a thread. That puts 'Ghost Stories' alongside 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'. A return to core principles. Next thing, Martin will be buying his hat first class tickets around the world.

  6. Disagree. I listened to the album last night hoping it was their Unforgettable Fire, and it's not. There are a few great moments on there (Always In My Head, Midnight, Oceans) but for the most part it's sappy love music that isn't all that interesting apart from some of the sounds they chose to implement. I'm still waiting for Coldplay's big creative peak, but I don't think it's happened yet, or they peaked really early. Mylo was good, but it was still just Coldplay using modern sounds, their actual song writing didn't change IMO.

Some review called this Chris Martin's solo album, there's truth to that sentiment. When I first heard Midnight I thought maybe Coldplay was really about to take a risk with their fans. Then Magic came out and although it was standard Coldplay fare I thought "Well Unforgettable Fire had Pride which was a familiar sound to U2's first three albums", but no, the rest of the album kinda falls flat and Midnight is the most interesting track on there.
  7. Target Deluxe Edition just leaked...
  8. i think the bonus track All Your Friends might be my favourite of this new album. it's a shame i'm only getting the standard album in my country.
  9. Lovin' the track Ghost Story! Just downloaded the Target Deluxe Edition.
  10. They are coming to Aus to play one show on June 19 in Sydney. I have an exam two days later hmmmm.

  11. 2 hours of fun won't get you from passing or failing that exam, dude
  12. Man, every track I hear off of this album is bad (for my tastes).

I keep trying as I see them being posted online, and I haven't liked any of them. What a disappointment.
