1. That montage during Fix You almost brought me to tears, starting with Bruce sliding across the stage.

And the Beautiful Day reference while Bono was on screen

    Best halftime show in years!

Totally agree, great performance. I got goosebumps watching the tribute they did to previous performances at the Super Bowl and the Bono/Chris Martin ''Beautiful Day'' bit was great.
  3. Yep, I really enjoyed watching it too. Good stuff!

Edit: Do you think that this tour will be their last?
  4. Definitely the best halftime show I've seen since I've been actively watching the Super Bowl.

Regarding this being their farewell tour, it wouldn't surprise me if it were the case. Although I'm a little sad that their new album isn't all that great, they still know how to command a stage and will put up an amazing show. The songs they have performed live thus far (A Head Full Of Dreams, Everglow, Adventure of a Lifetime, and Up & Up) have all proven themselves to be stage worthy. I am worried that they released a video for Hymn For The Weekend, their deepest venture into the Pop genre thus far. My guess is that they did it to promo Beyonce.
  5. A Head Full Of Dreams is my favourite song off the new album. I enjoy it quite a lot...

It'll be a shame if this is their last tour. I hope it won't be! Like you said Alex, they definitely know how to put on a show.
  6. Up&Up is really good too imo.

  7. At first I thought this album was average/weak but it's grown on me. Is it their best? Not by a long chalk. But it's miles ahead of Mylo Xyloto and is at least as good as Ghost Stories. Individually there are plenty of tracks that don't shine but as a whole album it's very fun, and even if this isn't their last album (which I don't think it will be but that's another post altogether) it has a nice sort of send-off feel to it.

Everglow is the best song on A Head Full of Dreams, hands down. It feels very Ghost Storiesesque but suits this record more.

I really really like the X Marks the Spot 'hidden track' after the nice-but-basically-mediocre Army of One (which feels like Chris Martin forcing Chris Martin to me - if he did the song a bit more downbeat it'd be considerably better). X Marks the Spot is such an odd thing, it's basically this weird, spaced-out club trance number - not something I'd want a whole album of, but surprisingly nice to hear.

I can understand Hymn For the Weekend being unpopular but I rather like it. It's not one of their best songs but it's not one of their worst either - it's a catchy and while it is pretty unashamedly pop it's a real cut above a lot of the - sorry for this - honestly really crap radio pop that's around, and from what I've heard the band initially wanted to do a bit of a more 'clubby' take on it but felt their fans wouldn't go for it. Not sure how I feel about the idea that bands feel they have to cater to their fans' expectations, but I can't say that the other version would've been better or worse so yeah...

Also, the bass part on Birds sounds just like the bass part on With or Without Out on the Live From Sydney CD/DVD - or at least it does when you're down the hall from the CD player and the low rumble of the bass is the only part of the song you can hear!

I think Everglow is one of the best songs Coldplay has put out in a long time and I also think it's one of the few songs Oldplayers will enjoy from this album. It reminds me of The Scientist in that both are heavily piano driven with all other musical aspects taking a backseat. Everglow could contend for a spot in Coldplay's top 10, maybe even top 5 songs.

  9. Anyone a fan of the song The Escapist? It's Jon Hopkins' Light Through Veins with Chris Martin singing over it, a hidden track on VLV. Fantastic stuff. I've known about it for ages but I thought I'd bring it up...

I seem to be on a bit of a Coldplay spree lately. Blame the Superbowl.
