1. With regards to a Rattle and Hum remaster, do you think the film will be remastered with updated picture and sound and possible etc.as a bonus dvd or we'll end up getting a lovetown proshot?

Of all there albums, I'm probably looking forward to the re-release of this one the most.

My guess would be that "The Unforgettable Fire" (album) would be next to be remastered and that "Wide Awake..." would be included with the bonus for that Deluxe Set as 3 of the 4 tunes on WAIA were B-Sides to "The Unforgettable Fire" (single),

But judging by your post, it appears that your post was more rhetorical and cynical than a genuine question.

I could go on... point by point... but the short answer is - YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT.

Of course, if U2 didn't remaster the albums, there would be comments about them NOT having the best quality version out there. And if they didn't make the 'bonus' material available, others would complain as to WHY hasn't U2 released these things.

How do I know this? I've read various forums over the years and what U2 are doing with the remasters are EXACTLY what many fans have begged for - quality remasters, nice updated packaging and many of the vinyl B-sides on CD - finally.

For the age of these records, I think they sound pretty good. Boy - 30 years on, almost, sounds fantastic from the very original release. October sounds awesome now as does War, whereas both those sounded like stretched analogue tape.

I'll get Unforgettable Fire - the deluxe edition without a second thought. The rest is all good - I've seen more people buying these remasters than ever before, but my question is why a live album - that sounded pretty good in the first place which is my argument - but it does fill out the entire UABRS package rather than just re-releasing a video with some extra tracks, as some will say (like me). I can't even find half of the singles anymore second-hand or import; so if they do release those as a bonus CD, then I'm all up for that.

Lloydius - regarding R&H - they've got possibly one of the best pictures available for that time - and released on PSP, BluRay, DVD, video-tape etc - that was just a thought and comment (maybe more cynical than anything else), and no way they're gonna spend big dollars or time re-releasing it on the same format for a bit of a picture increase.

I'm waiting for the Achtung - Zooropa - Pop set to see what they pump out with that.

Do we have the same album? My UABRS doesn't sound that good compared to today's standards. I don't really see why they shouldn't remaster this one. We got great results with the Mexico and Sydney releases, so I think UABRS is totally worth it.

That release gives you every possible choice: buy the package, buy the CD only, buy the DVD only, buy nothing. Nothing to complain about, imho.

So you can buy just the DVD? Sounds like a plan. Maybe some versions were better mastered than others.

I haven't listened to it in ages - I'll take a listen tonight.

    So no argument then.

Just chucked it on - god, it does sound pretty pathetic.

Some people about Zoo Sydney said the results were pretty poor because they were transferred from old tapes - they looked darn good to me.

Can't stand the Sydney audio myself. I'm not to excited about the UABRS remaster. I'll never listen to it as i'll have the DVD audio (I know Blood Red Sky is different nut not much. .)

I was referring to the sound only, since you said remastering a live album would be useless.

As for the picture, it's not perfect, but good enough for me. And it's a ZOO show. I'd even enjoy it in Black and White.
  10. I just find releasing a live album pointless with only eight songs. And the same goes for Vertigo Milan with ten songs. Why bother?

The last few releases (Mexico, Sydney, Milan, Chicago, Boston...not Slane) have terrible sound. It alternates from one channel to another and is turned up and down at any given time and sounds like it's recorded through a tin. The 5.1 mixes are no better - they sound rubbish. Those people also say the sound is terrible - and they're not wrong.

Give me an old videotape any day for sound. Imagine a bootleg of only three-stars - that's what some official releases sound like on mixes. Milan took the cake for sounding terrible - it gets worse during Miss Sarajevo and City of Blinding Lights.

You think? I think the sound on Mexico and Sydney is great. Especially the dts on the Sydney DVD is really good imo. Boston is another thing, though...

It must be something to do with the setup or the mood I'm in. Most times it sounds terrible, sometimes it sounds great. If you've got Milan, put it on DTS. It's too flat and hollow (and suffers from essing). Essing is where when the vocalist pronounces an 'S', it comes out too sharp.

Mexico isn't too bad in that respect. I love the drum sound (like a constant reverb effect) during Streets, and the dead silence during Please at the falsetto bit. I just want a DVD rip of it - have to do one tomorrow night. The sudden volume drop from Pop Muzik > Mofo is not too nice (it drops by about a third of the way!)

I'm off, but I'll see about placing a pre-order for UABRS (the entire set, fuck it - I'll do the lot).
