    "What is laminitis?
    What animal gets it?
How do you diagnose and treat it?"

    Off you go!!

Get it right and I'll share a story!!

OK i found the question down to the dirty work..
    what is laminitis?
Okay this is inflammation of the laminae of the hoof, so to answer the next question it is most commonly found in horses, (can cattle, sheep and deer also get it though?) is also called founder
How do you diagnose or treat it?
The laminae become inflamed because of congestion of blood and accumulation of toxins in the hoof region resulting from any of several causes, e.g., consumption of large quantities of grain; ingestion of large amounts of cold water by overheated horses. The signs of acute laminitis appear rapidly and include sweating, a rise in temperature to as high as 62°C, a pounding pulse in the hoof, an expression of anxiety, and a stance with the legs forward of their natural position so as to reduce the pain of weight bearing. Chronic laminitis is characterized by a shifting or rotation of the bone and other anatomical distortions in the hoof.
The disease is treated by eliminating the causative factors, administering drugs for the acute form, and trimming hooves and fitting corrective horseshoes for the chronic form. (okay so that wasnt in my own words entirely but i did my research )
    hows that Dan?
  6. ^^^^

    Nice work Nikki

Sorry for the delay, been mad busy here.

How's things going? Chem results in yet?

I owe you an amusing story now....

    will get thinking.

And another question of course .....
  7. So, anyone know where Nikki's got to?!?

    Veterinary update:-

Don't get bitten down to the bone on your right index finger by 2 canine teeth (the fangs) from a fractious cat.

Your finger will swell to 3 times it's normal size; change colour and hurt like being run over by a 10-ton truck.

    Ouch.
  8. im with you Dan havent seen her around in awhile!
  9. how can I keep cats away from the rabbit Dan? I fear that the rabbit is literall being hunted. The cats are prowling every day just observing and watching. I'd get a pellet gun but i'm not always in. The rabbit runs free around the garden and it's impossible to keep the cats out. Any cat deterents? (other than a dog)

There is a spike that you can stick into the grass. It's supposed to release a ultrasonic sound wave or some such thing that will piss the cats off so they don't come in. I'm afraid I have no product details and no experience as to efficacy.
Water gun (not allowed to condone pellets...)
Not a lot else other than securely closed hutch I'm afraid.

Never did get back to you ref flies etc. Bugger. Will check tomorrow. Sorry.

I'd hate to find the poor thing mauled to death on the lawn. The little sister would be mortified.

The hutch move into the garage has reduced the fly count
