1. The performance was amazing, it's so fresh and awesome, but I'm of the opinion that the new lyrics are a little lame. The lyrics themselves aren't bad, but I've never liked when Bono changes his lyrics to better suit whatever he might be singing towards. The original lyrics are good enough to suit almost any conflict, there's no need to add Iranian imagery into the picture.

Also the original ones are better.
  2. ^ that
  3. Sound good, but the change of lyrics isn't my cup of tea either.

  4. I wonder what he was there for? Maybe he was teaching Adam how to play piano. Or maybe he was preparing for his role when they went and played it at the studio or whatever it was later that night..

Hopefully nothing to do with the album!

I think it's great that they're taking a warhorse that frankly, I couldn't care less about hearing live anymore (seen it, heard it, it's on just about every live release, give it a break), and they're completely modernizing it. In fact, I hope this rendition takes the place of the Stuck / Stay acoustic slot on the next tour.

And to be honest, I think "signing up to die" is one of the more poignant lines in the song at the moment. Perhaps it's because I'm so used to the original that, while the lyrics are still powerful, I'm "used" to them...but when he sang that line my heart actually skipped a beat and my emotions were instantly tangled in the song like they've never been before.

I'm yet to see Stay, one of my favourite songs, so I must disagree there. Otherwise, if they do play SBS next tour, it has to be this version, or Edge solo like Popmart.

I had almost the exact same reaction to that line. I actually paused it and had to go back to see if he actually said that. Definitely one of his most blatant lines.
  7. I like the lyric switch up! It keeps the song fresh. Regarding their next tour, I really hope they don't do it so stripped back. I love getting riled up over SBS and that's best done with all the trimmings.
  8. It's over played as it is currently. As someone else said, it wouldn't worry me if I never saw the current/original version again
  9. It was me that said that, but funny enough - had you asked me before my first U2 show (2009 leg of 360), which two songs I would have dropped from the setlist, I would have said Beautiful Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday, because the Vertigo tour turned me off of both so much...and yet for my first U2 show, they blew me away. Wouldn't have traded them out.

In fact I guess I would have ditched Walk On and that Crazy Remix from my first show.

And Beautiful Day remained one of my favorite moments of my second show as well. Funny how that all works out.

I don't think it's overplayed. You just have heard it too many times
  11. I think what's crucial here is this: The performance was amazing. Fresh, energetic and Bono is spot on for tone and power. They still got it.

Oh, and not that it makes any difference whatsoever but here is the official U2 upload.
