1. So very true.
  2. Slow Dancing and Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad belong in a top 50 I'd say. Maybe North And South Of The River too. Quite a few people like Spanish Eyes too... and maybe The Sweetest Thing.
  3. The songs I didn't know from Hot Fuss are solid. Can't say I'm really digging the later stuff. Maybe it'll take some time.

I think The Killers are a really strange band in that you almost have to understand their progression as much as you have to understand their music. They've experimented so much in just their first four albums, which is astounding for a rock band these days. I hated Sam's Town when I first bought it truth be told. It took me several years to warm up to it, and now it's great. The same for Day and Age (but funnily enough Day and Age went the other way, loved it at first, now it's just so-so). Battle Born to me is like Hot Fuss all over again though, I love every single song on the album and I can't stop listening to it.

I'd give it some time to sink in and check their later stuff out again. Once you've gotten bored of Hot Fuss (if that's possible) move onto Sam's Town and give it a number of spins to get a hold on it. A lot of people still don't like any of their albums after Hot Fuss though, so perhaps you're amongst that group!
  5. Thanks.

I thought the three Sam's Town songs I listened to were pretty good but I think you're right: I'll listen to Hot Fuss in its entirety for a while and work my way up from there.
  6. Hot Fuss is an absolute masterpiece, and it probably would be THE best album of the 00's for me IF it contained When You Were Young, Sam's Town and For Reasons Unknown instead of Believe Me Natalie and Midnight Show (in my humble opinion of course).

I must agree with Alex here, except that I first thought Day&Age was crap and I still think it But Battle Born is really good and, although it obviously hasn't fully settled yet, I think it's on par with Sam's Town as their 2nd best album

You're DAMN right in your humble opinion!!!! I love those songs!
  8. The first half of Hot Fuss is outstanding for me, but the last half is borderline piss poor.

Sam's Town on the other hand is the masterpiece that showed The Killers strength in making music. Personally, it's my favourite album by them, but is also one of my favourite albums of the noughties.
  9. Sam's Town will always be my favourite Killers album; its in my top 5 albums ever. unlike Hot Fuss, a lot of the best songs weren't even singles (This River Is Wild, My List etc) - though the singles were obviously well chosen - which just shows how great every track is.

it's their most cohesive album for me, and it was such a brave move on their part to change sound and image so heavily so early on.

I'd say Battle Born is now their most cohesive album, it's the closest thing they've ever done to a concept album and the songs and lyrical content just flow into eachother amazingly.

Sam's Town is grossly overrated amongst Killers fans in my opinion. It has some good music, but the lyrical content is lackluster in that it was the beginning of Brandon spewing out clever word play, metaphors and imagery for the sake of sounding poetic, when in actuality most of it doesn't make much sense. I'm not saying all the lyrics are like that, but some are. And some of the songs just drag for me, like For Reasons Unknown, and Bling, both songs that people put on a pedestal that I just can't really stand. When You Were Young, Read My Mind and Bones are really the only songs I'd put in with Killers' best, other than that I've never found the album as good as most people say it is. Don't get me wrong, it is a great album, but it's not their best and it's just not a masterpiece. I think Hot Fuss and now Battle Born surpass it.

This is why I love this album. The idea of cohesiveness between songs is also why I think Mylo Xyloto is Coldplay's best album and ATYCLB is U2's best album. There is definitely a sense of musical and lyrical unity in these albums. Battle Born is one of those albums that I recommend people listen to straight through because the track order is actually pretty good as it is.
  12. ^ Agree with that, disagree with the examples
