1. Did U2 enlist a Jawa to play bass in DC? This piccy (from the rehearsal) is hilarious.

Nice bass Adam! Sweet gold sparkle finish... Looks like Adam order himself up a lil something special from the Fender Custom Shop.

    Good call Adam!
  2. And even Honest Abe seems to be looking at Larry Mullen Jr's silver sparkle Yamaha drum kit.

  3. More of Larry's new kit...

  4. More of Adam's gold sparkle bass... and check out the abalone inlays... nice!

  5. I have to admit that I'm not into sparkle designs at all. Neither silver sparkle drums nor gold sparkle bass guitars.

If someone gave me a green sparkle Gretsch I'd probably reconsider...

  7. Any news on the new equipment of Mr. The Edge in the GOYB single? What he might me using in the small solo on 01:17>01:24? I love that sound man... And what about that LOUD and big G chords that breaks into both "You don't know how beautiful" bridges???
  8. My own small tab for Edge's riff of Get On Your Boots. It's easy, I know, but I damn love that riff and I want to share it with the world xD

No 100% sure but sounds like the Electro-Harmonix POG is in play. One can also see the POG in some of the Fez, Morocco pictures and in the Olympic Studios shots.

That said, Mick (from U2 Recording Yahoo Group) was able to get a fairly convincing tone with his Gretsch Silver Jet and Line 6 DM4.

The are various distortions going on there. I think it can be a combination of the Line 6, Death By Audio Supersonic Fuzz Gun and EH POG for the octave distortion.

  11. The main riff effects, not to mention the riff itself, remind me of Discothéque big time - especially when Edge comes in and is playing on his own before the drums come back in, really tight tone going on, sounds like the noise is gonna burst out of the amp.
  12. It's full of crispy fuzzy goodness. What's not to like?

Although, I've already heard some gripe. But in that, I heard the same 'griping' when "The Fly" came out and later... similar folk were praising the greatness of "The Fly".

The fact that "Get On Your Boots" isn't as immediate to some, as Vertigo and Beautiful Day may have been, is a good thing. The best songs, in my view, are one's that reveal themselves over time; a new layer showing itself with each listen.
