I know what you mean. I don't know why he's using the retro for this song, there's no sustaining involved, except I think at one part he simulates a kind of feedback with teh sustain. I also miss the guitar riff he played during the "I remember, when we could sleep..." that was so cool back in the day, i loved that changed guitar part from the album. I don't like the new one as much.
  3. He's using the Fernandes due to the sustainer pickups - which he's using for the aforementioned part during "I Remember..." bit.
  4. SILVER & GOLD.

The "Silver Fox" (as the ladies like to refer to Adam) and his GOLD Les Paul Signature bass.

There's plenty of sustain going on fella, whenever he's not playing the riff or at the end when he's ripping out the chords, he's whamming out some magic on the sustain pickup, adds a much darker feel to the song for me like the original album version.

    You are correct Sir.

And there is nothing wrong with Edge experimenting and trying different things. Or at least not to me, there isn't

As for the Explorer, he does use it in Beautiful Day... isn't like he doesn't bring it out...

  7. A great guitar for an average song, doesn't make justice to our little Explorer

It was just a joke, guys. I'm not as talented as you when it comes to guitars and effects, but I was just missing the Explorer looking

Agree, agree, agree. The man speaks truth, he does. I particularly like the tone he's got out of the Retro too, I mean I loved what he did during ZooTV for UV but there's an almost ethereal feel for me with the tone he's developed these days.

Haha, don't worry man I know it was a joke - on an aesthetic level I'd love to see Edge use the Explorer more than he does, especially with something such as UV but he's come up with a way to play it differently on one of his many guitars so fair play to him I don't think Beautiful Day is an average song though...but that's just me
  9. I think some of my favourite Edge tones are the early tones, with the explore and the blackie strat. His tone was amazing there, and it was the beginning of a whole variety of tones, however the early days tones are where it all started, and they're still some of his best.
  10. TURNS OUT... GIBSON GAVE EDGE A CHRISTMAS PRESENT IN 2008... A REPLICA OF THE AUCTIONED 1975 GIBSON LES PAUL... READ ON...

White Les Paul Custom = replica of auctioned guitar.

Dallas Schoo stated that the Les Paul Custom being used on the U2:360 tour is an exact replica that Gibson made and sent to them. They didn't even know Gibson was doing it!

    For more:

Joe Bosso:[Seeing a faded Alpine White Les Paul] Now, I know Edge auctioned his '75 Les Paul a few years ago…What's this?

Dallas:[Takes the guitar out of the rack] "Let me tell you a story, Joe. This is the most amazing thing. Yes, The Edge did auction his Les Paul off for Music Rising - it made a phenomenal amount of money. [Ed. Note: final price $288, 000] It was hard for him to part with it."

Joe Bosso: I can imagine. He used it on New Years Day, Love Comes To Town…

Dallas: "So many classic songs. It's a crucial guitar for him. But it was a great cause, so he couldn't say no. Anyway, it was Christmas time, and I'm home in Colorado, and this huge UPS package arrives at my door. I open it up and it's a brand-new Gibson case. I'm like, 'OK, what's this?' I flipped the locks on the case and took a look inside and I thought I was seeing things…it was The Edge's '75 Les Paul!"

Joe Bosso: Wait…Gibson bought it back? I thought it was part of Guitar Center's Legends Collection.

Dallas: "It is. The second I got this guitar, I started checking it out. Look at this [he flips it over, shows me belt scratches and dings]… it was eerie. I thought somebody made some sort of mistake at first. Did they send me the auctioned guitar to be authenticated or something?"

"So I called Edge and said, 'Do you know anything about this?' And he was like, 'No. What are they doing sending it back to you?' Which wouldn't have made any sense: you wouldn't send a guitar like that by UPS; you'd hand deliver it. Edge didn't know what was happening.

"By now, my wheels are really turning. So I unscrewed the back plate…brand-new wiring. Brand-new pots, everything. I keep checking - a brand-new switcher. I take the pickups out…brand-new wood inside."

Joe Bosso: Gibson made a replica of the '75 Les Paul?

Dallas: "Yep. They made an exact replica. Gibson wanted Edge to have the guitar even though he'd auctioned it off. I still remember when he plugged it in for the first time and played it; he was like, 'This is it! It's the same guitar.' We couldn't believe it.

[He flips over the guitar, showing off the "2" decal] "I mean, look at this. They even got the same decal and faded it just like the original. It's scary! The weight, everything. I mean, how can you get the same weight of the wood - new wood is going to be different than older wood. Totally amazing. Edge used this on No Line On The Horizon, he loved it that much."
  11. Wow, nice story!!!
