  1. Good stuff man! I just successfully turned my American Strat into an Edge War Tour Strat!


    Black accessories, Dimarzio FS-1 pickup, brass saddles. Now all I need is the 70's neck, and it's Edgeified!
  2. Yea, I got a clearcoat one, not the black one (i think it looks a bit hardcore).

    Now I have to get an amp and an FX pedal, the problem, is I have the money and am willing to spend about $2000 all up, but my mother won't be happy lol.

    She doesn't realise I have to buy an amp for it to work yet and I'm not sure how to tell her
    She already disapproves of me spending $700 on a guitar, when I have no idea how to play! (she wanted me to get a starter guitar)

    Hopefully I can persuade her to let me buy what I want to get.

    Well, starter guitars are designed for people who are... starting? lol hahaha

    Good luck on the persuading, I wish I had the money to even think of buying such guitars and amplifiers (persuading would be easier if I even had the money )

    Oh, I only have the money cos I live with my parents (which has it's disadvantages, as u can see!) and I also don't spend much on cars, partying (or 20 different pairs of Nikes and designer sunglasses!) like many my age do.

    I'm hoping I can convince her that a half decent amp will cost 500 or so. Hopefully she doesn't ask my brother who'll wonder why the hell I'm spending so much, lol.

    Especially when I can count on one hand the amount of times I've HELD a guitar (nvm playing it) in my life.
  6. The guys at interference seem to think the AC-15 and a M13 make a good combo too, like u guys were suggesting.

    I don't think my mum will let me buy guitar, amp and FX box at once though, so i'll prob buy a M13 later.

    How do other FX boxes like the Zoom G1 Harry was suggesting or the Boss GT-10 stack up to the M13 at emulating Edge?

    The GT-10 can amp model AC-30s so maybe I could get that with a cheaper amp instead of a real Vox and the M13? How would that compare?

    I only recommend the Zoom G1X because a) it's very much affordable, b) it's foolproof (even I can use it and I'm not exactly Bill Gates when it comes to technology) and c) because I have experience of it. If you're really trying to emulate Edge, I'm not much help simply because I've not tried to accurately copy his sound. I come up with tones which - for me - fit the songs if I'm playing U2 material etc. Kudos to you if you want to try and become Edge (as it were) but if you are just starting out, I think it would be a wiser move to work your way up with some basic hardware to begin with, because you don't know how compatible you are with guitars. I'm just trying to be the friendly voice of caution lol
  8. Yea thanks, I was just checking out the Zoom and it seemed more of a bang for buck option.

    I think i'll be able to grasp the effects side of things ok, I do engineering so its not all double-dutch to me ( I actually find it somewhat interesting, I started reading the M13 manual off their website embarassing I know!)

    The actual guitar playing is what I dont know how good i'll be at (i'm a decent piano player though, does that help?), but this is a long term thing for me and I am somewhat dogged

    See i've been thinking for about a year now, that when I was older ( maybe after uni), I would get a guitar and learn how to play (not just U2 songs either, i'm not thinking of starting a cover band lol).

    It just sort of hit me last week that I had enough dough to start now especially when it seems that there really good, cost-effective options available atm in terms of guitars and FX boxes that do a decent job of emulating Edge. So here I am.

    So far, I think I've decided on the M13 for my FX box, haven't heard anything but praise for it.
    The amp is the issue atm, while I can afford an AC15CC my parents will prob never let me buy it AND the M13 right now, so i'll have to buy an M13 later.

    I also dont want to shell out another 250 for the blue Celestion speaker upgrade for the AC-15, does anyone know how much of a difference the upgrade makes?

    My other option (the impatient one) is to get the much cheaper Vox Pathfinder 15 (is the 15R better?) and the M13 now, the 'rents should relent with some persuasion.

    I'm not looking to play gigs at all, so it's loudness isnt an issue. But how good are they at sounding like the proper tube Voxs?

    I taught myself the guitar after having learnt flute and piano, and the musical side played a great part in working out the theory side of the guitar etc., but knowing scales and arpeggios is a fat load of use if your fingers don't stretch out for a bar chord lol. I started out learning on an acoustic first, for the record, so I don't have much difficulty making the transition, but I know people who do.

    Yea that's what I'm not sure, my brother plays acoustic and he says he has difficulty with some chords but not a big deal. And I have bigger hands than him so I should be ok, if I practice enough.

    What do people think about the amp choices?
