You can get that tone with Comp/Boost and Delay.

What did Edge have for the album? By then he had the MXR DynaComp Compressor, Boss FA-1 Bi-Fet (for boost)... He still had E-H Deluxe Memory Man during the making of the Unforgettable Fire album - for Delay. But it's also possible that he used the Korg SDD3000.

A lot of the tone definitely comes from the guitar used too. I think it's still a mystery as to what he used. Some think it was the White Falcon, some think it was a tele, some think it was his strat with the Dimarzio FS-1 or the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, and some think (this is what I think) it was his LPC. You can see him using the LPC in windmill lane in the making of UF videos while they're doing overdubs, so I think he used the LPC.
  2. Can't you also see them in Slane actually recording the song in the TUF movie? The included on the Slane DVD...
  3. Is LPC Les Paul Custom? Sorry Really doubt that's what you mean, can't imagine Pride on an LP

Only thing he mentioned using the White Falcon for on UF was Indian Summer Sky and a few things that didnt' make the album.

While "used" in the "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" video, I am not so sure it is on the studio recording.

Seems the LP Custom was tried ifor "Pride..." per the Making of UF documentary. So while possible, that does not definitively shows that it definitely made the final mix. It is a good place to start for experimenting. But as the majority of live shows he's used a Stratocaster... leads me to believe that it was the major part of that song.

Edge also mentioned that riff was first played/born at soundcheck in Hawaii on the War tour. That leads me to believe that it could be the Strat or perhaps the Explorer that the song was written with... or the main idea started with...

It Might Get Loud shows Edge playing "Get On Your Boots" with the 1966 Gibson SG and at another point one of the Gretsch Country Gents. I'm not sure either of those made the final mix. So studio footage can lead the way but isn't always the final word.
  5. Doing overdubs with a Les Paul doesn't necesarely mean that the whole song (or at least the main guitar part) was recorded with it. I always thought (or liked to think) that Pride was recorded with the White Falcon. Not for tone reasons, but for feeling ones. An elegant guitar for an elegant style of playing in an elegant song

So I guess we'll never no
  7. What's the harmonics at the start of Pride?

  8. E---12-------------------12-------------
    B---12-------------------12-------------
    G--------------7-------------------7-----
    D--------------7-------------------7-----
    A--------7------------------7-----------
    E-----------------------------------------

So, basically, harmonic notes correspondant to B,,, A,,, D,,, . Easy.

Ah yeh, the one I read had the second and third ones wrong, cheers man
  10. I wrote them myself! I love writing tabs

EDIT: a really proffessional notation would be writing (12) to mark it's an harmonic, but you obviously did know they were harmonics so who cares?
  11. It will be interesting to see and hear which of the pedals on the picture Edge tweeted in November 2009 will make the album and that might be added to the touring rig.

    TOP row L-R:
Boss Fender Bassman pedal (TO BE CONFIRMED)
Cyber Psychic - parametric oscillo filter
Moog Moogerfooger Murf- Multiple Resonance Filter Array
Moog Moogerfooger MF 102 - Ring Modulator
    Electro-Harmonix Holier Grail - Reverb

The pedalboard pictured above seems to have some of the same items that were seen on a similar pedalboard during the NLOTH sessions. In fact, as the screencap (below)doesn't show the whole board, it may have all of the same pedals.

NLOTH Sessions (screen cap from U2.com video)

Row 1 is the row closest to Edge.
Row 2 farther away from Edge. Pedals are listed from Left to Right.

  12. Anyone know what he uses the Synth Wah for?
