  1. Has anyone ever tried these line 6 things? they look to be amazing instruments. LIke if you had every kind of guitar, amp and effects on one guitar only.

    Not necessarliy the amps and effects in one but... the guitar can cover a lot of ground.

    I guested on "In Gods Country" with The Joshua Tree (a tribute band from LA) a few years ago. Chas has a Variax acoustic (that he recovered in Edge used/Edge approved silver sparkle)

    I enjoyed playing the guitar. Plays great. No feedback issues, like one can get with traditional acoustic (live).

    While Edge did use the silver Line 6 Variax 700 for "Love and Peace (or Else!)" during shows, it was actually recorded with a Gibson J200 acoustic ran through some of his effects. Needless to say, live that could have been a nightmare with feedback.

    Legend has it, some of the main bits of Discotheque were an acoustic (which one is unsure, possibly a Taylor) played through his rack of effects (including the Love Tone Big Cheese fuzz and the Love Tone Meatball envelope filter).

    Interesting. Didn't know that about Discotheque.

    On another note, how good is "The Joshua Tree?" Thinking about checking them out next time they play...in my area.

    "The Joshua Tree" are quite good. Nice lads and great at playing U2 songs. I was honored to be asked to play a tune with them. They play in LA, Orange Couty, San Diego and they've been playing about once a month in Las Vegas.

    Now if only THE EDGE and U2 would have me play a tune with them - then I could die happy. Well, unless I fecked up the tune, then I'd die embarassed but happy - sort of.


    On the east coast, I recommend The Unforgettable Fire, from NY. They are great. And their Edge - Mick - is one cool dude and great guitar player.

    (and a few times for The Fly - as seen in U2:3D)... that is a Line 6 Variax 700 acoustic. It digitally models various vintage acoustic 6 and 12 string gutiars as well as banjo, mandolin...

    Also Edge used a black one with the red vertigo circles for The Fly most nights.

    Well, I will surely dissapoint you, but the picture I posted WAS the photo I referred to. I had it stored on a generic Elevation Tour folder (even tho it looks very Vertigo like, and the rack behind The Edge seems to be that rack seen on the American legs on the stage). Sorry for the confusing post. I tried to say that from the moment I saw that Custom Tele I knew I had seen something similar before. And the Variax has the exact same shape, the same body. Sorry


    By the way, that guitar, the Variax Accoustic.. Well it looks fuckin and freakin awesome.

    Do they play very very like U2 or they try to improve or modify slightly the songs? For example Kane modified a bit Acrobat and With Or Without You on that cover album of them.

    Yeah, the Variax 700 acoustic is cool guitar. I wouldn't mind having one m'self.

    They come in natural wood finish, black and sunburst. Silver sparkle is a custom bit that Edge had done. Chas from The Joshua Tree got some silver sparkle finish and re-finished his variax.

    Judging by the t-shirt... that pic of Edge with the Variax is from the Vertigo tour.

    I haven't been bored enough to make a list of what t-shirts he wore what night of Vertigo but I DID once get bored enough to make a list for Edge Elevation t-shirts. True story.

    Like most "tribute" bands, versus merely a cover band (there IS a difference), they play them pretty faithful to the originals. Or at least as per the way U2 play them live. Being a tribute "Edge" is an expensive prospect! And Chas from Joshua Tree & Mick from The Unforgettable Fire are two of the best.
  10. And no, I'm not 'disappointed' that you may have thought a picture was from Elevation when it was from Vertigo.

    Seems your pictures are far more organized than mine! I need to spend a week sorting them out... maybe a month!

    Why can't we just be paid for being U2 fans! And running U2 relatged sites and forums. And attending U2 shows!

    I wouldn't take U2:3D as a solid 100% source considering, like most of their film releases, they've undergone a fair bit of editing - I mean they could have just patched a bit of LAPOE onto The Fly in the hope that people wouldn't make too much of it and just assume it was glare, perhapps?

    On another note, are there any Vertigo shows that you'd be certain that he used the glitter/silver Variax?

    Re. Explorer goodness we'd discussed previously, I'd love to see Edge play The Fly on the Explorer should they retain the song for the next tour...

    Sure there's editing... but when said editing appears that Edge is acually playing the part for The Fly vs. just Edge playing some other part....

    So it's more than possible that he was actually using the silver Variax for The Fly.

    Keep in mind, Edge does experiment. And also, there was an 'issue' at the beginning of The Fly on the movie. Perhaps that issue at that show was rectified by swapping out the guitar?
