The Edge doesn't have a 1973 Explorer. I am assuming you meant a 1973 Stratocaster.

I do believe that the Vertigo tour "...Streets..." Stratocaster was once with a white pick guard, pickup caps and knobs. It does still have the white pickup selector cap.

So if I were a bettin' man... I'd say: Yes. It is another of the list of questions that I have ready for Dallas.
  2. Of course I meant Strat. A 73 Explorer would be an anacrhronism, (is that the word) seeing as they were out of production from 58 through 75 I think. A dumb mistake really.

NO worries. So many guitars, that The Edge has... I am obsessive about it and I can get confused too!

You? Obsessive? Nah (I must say your website is possibly the best U2 gear site I've ever seen.)

The site is still growing. I still have tons to add. I am hoping to hear back from Dallas on some questions I've submitted.

That is why I made the site, not that I think it's the biggest or best... but so that I can remember the bits of information that I find. And to share said information.

I don't think Edge or Dallas mind a site like mine... I am not giving away trade secrets or exact effects chains. Just some information on some of the items used - not detailing exactly HOW they are used (settings and chain-wise).

Well, I hope they'd like it or would approve

Why would they be mad if you said on the site how the things are used? You can have every single pedal and guitar Edge has, you can even play on his rig, and you won't sound like him. Every musician has a musical personality, impossible to copy. I can't understand why some people keep secret about their rigs, like that Audioslave guy. I think it is quite silly.

Tom Morello from Audioslave / Rage Against The Machine is not secretive about his rig. All of the guitar magazine articles that I have with him, state what he uses. He himself has said that anyone can spend an afternoon and figure out most of what he plays and what effects.

I don't think that Edge or Dallas have issues with fans making sites or talking about the gear used. They don't give out the settings and effects chains. They work hard on tone and I can respect that. What is on my site is some of the ingredients but not the recipe. I think that they'd be okay with that. But if I were posting direct settings and effects chains - that might be a different story.

Tim Commerford, the bass player is quite touchy about his rig.

Which is weird as he doesn't use THAT much in the way of effects. There is a wah, a whammy (I think), some kind of distortion (a big muff, I think), and a chorus pedal... Whatever the case, it's hardly a Dave Gilmour or The Edge rack!

Yeah but the rewinds the pick ups himself, made new solderings on the amplifiers, makes his own distorion pedals and probably a lot other stuff that he keeps undercover. He does have an awesome sound though.

His right to keep it secret if he wants - whether that "he" is David Gilmour to The Edge to Eddie Van Halen.

All mentioned will talk about specific 'bits' of equipment. But it isn't like Dallas or Edge will tell you the exact setting and chain for "Gone" or "Elevation" or whatever.

That said, with good ears and a lot of smart fellows, many on U2 Recording yahoo group have figured out how to acheive a great number of The Edge's tones with the same gear as The Edge and with alternate gear too.
