Sad...I think it is nice that you like these two bands/artists, but you are limiting way too much the music you listen. It is impossible that there are not at least more five "famous" bands that you wouldn't like.

RHCP has its moments for me. Anthony's voice isn't always there. I was a bit too quick with saying that they suck, you're right. Let's say Anthony's voice could be better, the same goes for Chris Martin too lately. And even Bono has its bad moments.

Yeah, Anthony is not what we can call a great singer. His range is very limited, his tecnique is poor, he is getting old...I think Bono is holding up pretty well for his age, when compared to other singers.

What is his age actually? I know they've been making music for more than 25 years, but they still seem kinda young to me.

The lyrics are not the heart of the song, the heart of the song is the instrumental. Ever heard about instrumental music? Would you say that it has no "heart"? I see the vocals as another instrument, they play the melody on most parts, and the lyrics are just another ornament, just like a guitar effect or anything of this sort.

valid point. music is the heart too. have you ever heard of Explosions in the Sky or Godspeed! You Black Emperor? they are two of my favorite instrumental bands. i'm just saying lyrics are important, my original statement may have been thought out better

It's all down to personal opinion. I don't mind Led Zep, and I don't know much about the Eagles and so I can't really comment, but I don't think that Led Zep are that great - but like I say, each to their own

For me, you can't separate the lyrics from the music - it's all one entity. The music reflects the lyric, and the lyric reflects the music, e.g. Love Is Blindness - dark lyrics reflected by dark music. I like U2 both because they mix the profound with the ordinary and come up with something unique, both lyrically and musically, not to mention they have one of the most engaging and interesting frontmen ever to set foot in the world of music, and adding to this that they are one of the most innovative bands to have existed - they took strength in their perceived weaknesses and developed something extraordinary, and it's why they are the band we know and love to this very day.

Never heard about them. I also think that lyrics are important, but in my opinion, they are overrated, and the music is almost always underrated. Just me.

He is 45. They are definitely not young anymore, but they stil have a lot of energy
  9. I really apprieciate how the band deals with being political. They aren't just loudmouth celebrities who thinks the world hangs on every word they say. They put their money where their mouths are. No one has done more to raise awarness for poverty and AIDS in Africa than Bono. And The Edge was one of the most active people in helping New Orleans regain its identity after it was washed away by Katrina. Its a long cry from what you normally get. Criticism and finger pointing which leads to nothing. I also don't think that we have lost out on albums because they are so active. This is the biggest band in the world. That's what you do. Record. Tour for over a year across the world, and rest. They just happen to mix in a ton of good deeds while they aren't being U2.
  10. U2 is U2.
    And U2 is politics.
So the questions makes no sense.

Jokes out, I actually think that U2 without politics makes no sense. Even in their "least political" eras (Zoo and POP, we could think) they were very active politically.

Rolling stones suck IMO. They are way over-rated, and I think the only reason they're so big is because they were the counter to the Beatles at the time, they were the yin to the beatles yang, but they for sure aren't as good as the beatles, or as everyone makes them out to be. They have some catchy tunes, but Mick Jagger sucks at singing, and when they all harmonize (or attempt to) it sounds like crap. But thats just my opinion.
The Who I agree with, rock gods. U2 are also in heaven with them. U2 aren't rock gods, but they are gods of their own type of music. Which is basically everything since they've experimented with so much.

Thats the point. They made every dumb kid w3ith a guitar feel like they could do it too. Alot of bands wouln'dt exist without them.

EXACTLY... YOU TOO can do it. YOU TOO can be a band. YOU TOO can say that you feel and need to say. YOU TOO can make a difference. YOU TOO can make a point by saying YOU TOO alot!
