  1. I listened to the speech again, albeit fun to hear, it got old for me because good ol' Bono kept saying the same stuff during the song on the tour, and this was the 5th or 6th show from that leg...it's probably just me

    Yeah I kinda agree with this, I think its the fact that he said it at Slane, something which we have all heard over and over again, and at this gig Bono sounded like he was just going thought the motions with the 'Out of Control' speech. But it was new for the audience I guess, and that's what counts.

  5. 2001-10-19; Baltimore

    Performance:
    It's a beautiful day in Baltimore! Very decent performance by our favorite band. They start of with an average performance of Elevation, but it rocks as it always does. Next up is a fantastic version of Beautiful Day. Very good, Bono sounds great there. UTEOTW is another highlight, they played it great during the whole tour and this one is no exception. New Years Day just rocks, even tough I'm not a big fan of the Elevation-versions of that song. Out Of Control is average, as is SBS.
    The snippet of When Will I See You Again just before SIAMYCGOO is beautiful and the crowd sings along very good. SIAMYCGOO itself is just 'okay'.
    Up next is Kite and Bono shows again his vocal strength. Very very very good version. Angel Of Harlem after that sucks tough. I really did not like the Elevation version of AOH and this one is just horrible.
    Staring At The Sun and Please are awesome The sequence to Streets gave me chickenpox, it's that good. Streets itsself was very good too, one of the better Elevation versions.
    ISHFWILF is always skipable for me, but this one was, I'll admit it, pretty good. The crowd is awesome again. Same counts for Pride.

    The encore kicks of with an average version of BTBS. Love the heavy metal-ish glow over it, but it's not better than other Elevation versions. What's Going On is a creepy song to me, it makes me kinda scared tbh. But this version is very nice.
    New York is THE highlight of the show, one of the best versions around. Bono sounds really awesome here. It went kinda too patriotic for me after that, with the whole crowd shouting 'USA!' and 'New York!'. I know its kinda logical in these times, but I personally did not like it...it's an Irish band after all. On the otherside; in understand it's awesome for the Americans among us.
    One was brilliant and a nice snippet of POE follows. The gig ends with a good performance of Walk On.
    If you were there you had a great evening, I'm sure. But in generally it's pretty average.

    Audience:
    Very good crowd, nice singalongs all the time. Crowd highlights; ISHFWILF, Pride, the end of New York.

    Sound:
    I really liked the sound of this gig, slightly better than rated here. At times the crowd goes slightly too wild and they sing harder than Bono, but overall the sound is pretty okay. The drums are pretty loud, which is a good thing.

    Overall:
    Overall it's nothing more than an average Elevation-boot. The performance is okay, pretty cool. Some songs are pretty very good, a couple are not much. Most of the songs are pretty average tough. Lowlight is the weak setlist. I definitely prefer 2nd leg shows, with eg The Fly. I also miss Mysterious Ways and WOWY here.
    The crowd is awesome, which logical just a while after 9/11. Good singalongs.
    The sound is not that much tough. It's audible, but there are way better sounding boots out there. Overall I'd give it 7/10.

    Performance

    I think this was particularly strong performance for the band, still in the early part of the 3rd leg and in the build up to hitting New York, the band really showed how the Tour got its name for lifting a nation. 'Elevation' to opened the show was lively and energetic, with the "I wouldn't to be anywhere else" at the start. This energy lead on into 'Beautiful Day' and 'Until the End of the World', though both were not the greatest performance on the tour. Out of Control was a nice inclusion though a bit repetitive especially for those who have Watched 'Slane' or have a wide number of 'Elevation' Bootlegs. 'When Will I See You Again' was a nice touch in the build up to a fairly average 'Stuck In a Moment'. The really highlight of the first encore was the acoustic version of 'Please', though unlike the 'PopMart' version the led into 'Streets' was a bit crap to say the least.
    The encore was just going through the motions of a standard elevations gig. There was a nice little speech by Bono before 'One' before leading into good performances of 'POE / Walk On''

    Sound

    certainly a 3 star, nothing more, nothing less. The band was audible and, most importantly of all, listenable, though the crowd at times were slightly overpowering and the recording did go a bit soft at times

    Overall
    A good bootleg and a good show, only really let down by the sound quality of the recording. in the run up to the New York shows the band were on fire, though with some strange set list decisions (no Stay, Bad or WOWY) some parts of the show didn't really flow, the crap Please/Streets segue for example.

    Trivia: This is the band's only performance in Baltimore!

    Performance

    This performance was burdened by one of the most appalling Elevation setlists I've ever come across. I tend not to like most post 9/11 shows because of the sub-standard setlists (there's a few exceptions to this rule), but this one took the cake. Three cover songs? Give me a break!

    The show started off well enough. By this time, the band had become very adept at getting the crowd going right from the very first notes of Elevation, through to Beautiful Day and then one of the best no. 3's in their live history - Until The End OF The World! It's a formidable crowd starting trio!!

    I can't help but disagree with one of the earlier comments about the speech in the middle of Out Of Control. I really liked it. It served as a memorable tribute to the band's loyal army of fans, spanning a number of generations. I'm in Generation X. "...I want you to know, myself and my friends are very much Out Of Control"

    From Kite to Please things got a bit crappy. Lacklustre performances of Kite and Angel and I think Heaven's Door has been the band most over-played cover. Please was good as a bit of an experiment before Streets but I've never been a fan of this song.

    Luckily, the lads were able to turn to their old faithful Streets to pick things up again and it was a decent version I might add.

    And then we come to what I thought was a pretty unimpressive encore. I felt only New York stood out here. One was a poop sandwich here (although I do like good renditions of it), and Walk On I'm not a fan of either. And I won't go into What's Going On.

    Still a respectable 3 out of 5 stars.

    Sound

    A solid 3 stars. Nothing outstanding here. Quite a bit of crowd noise but the band can be heard for the most part.


    Audience

    They were pretty rocking. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

    Overall

    As I said before the setlist kills it for me and Bono's voice is strained all through it, but the passion was there.

    Highlights
    First three or four songs. It got the show off to a good start.
    Streets

    Lowlights
    No Fly is a big black mark in my book
    And for what? Three cover songs? Not happy.
    I Still Haven't Found and Pride should not be there. End the main setlist with Streets. You can't top that.
    Please replacing All I Want Is You or Bad as the Streets lead-in.

    A generous 3 out of five stars overall.
