True. Studio version had rich lyrics that didn't repeat too much, and they did really flow with the music and the new lyrics just don't work that well... Too bad. Also, crappy "solo" by teh Edge.

Do a proper solo or don't even try, dear mr. Evans.
  2. I'll agree with you, the solo needs work. It's a little too 'Who's gonna ride your Wild Horses'
    Everything else is perfect

  3. Well that's me completely won over then

I think the solo part's quite cool, a decent little fill. It's great they've thrown Mercy out there, as a cohesive piece, I think the the studio demo feels more complete but I still rate this live version they've put out. The chorus doesn't feel completely right but hey, major kudos for them having the balls to say sod it, we're gonna give it a go. Terry Lawless' piano part is beautifully chilling, quite minimal but effective nonetheless. Couldn't hear Bono's guitar on the video though...good or bad?
  4. As big as my love for the "original" version was, I am a bit disappointed by this. I like the old lyrics much better, especially the choruses, and I am sad they cut out the part which comes after "I fear nothing, etc." where Bono sang a beautiful falsetto and Edge came in with a short, but great guitar part. That is the sweetest thing I have ever heard from U2. The new solo is not that great. Love Larry on both version, though. I highly doubt this is a completely finished form.
  5. is he saying "because, because, because we got reborn" ? Someone probably already suggested this though and it's probably yesterdays news by now

This is fucking hilarious - i nearly fell off my chair Sergio, 'windy clarity', thats absolutely classic.

And to think I sometimes wonder why people think certain songs have great lyrics - they're just hearing a completely different song!

Also, after a few more listens to the new version of Mercy, I really don't know why they changed the melody of the choruses (or why Bono decided to replace humdrum lyrics with absolutely inane ones) the "because, because, because' refrain just ruins the flow of the song. It's exactly like that god awful "time, time, time" part in City of Blinding Lights.

I really hope the final version is better than this.
  7. In a way though, whether it was a good decision or not, to change up the lyrics after six years first being recorded.

Cant believe they DESTROYED one of their greatest unreleased songs, if you cant be arsed to do your fans justice then dont bother, im getting more and more pissed off with Bonos inability to remember lyrics even when he has a teleprompt in front of him, a diehard fan for 25 years never thought they would allow room for such bad live performances when live is their bread and butter, shame really big shame, does not hold? well form the US next year.

In some ways I agree. The best thing that happened that song that it was leaked in 2004 and we heard it as a great song. They changed the lyrics into a boring mainstream shit with full of cliché and Bono didn't even remembered them. Very disappointing, now I understand Yeah's points.

What's so hilarious? I hear what I hear, I'm not a native speaker and we obviously can listen to different things in an unreleased song with no official lyrics.
  10. I'm just sighing, right now.

I'm sure you'll remember Winter's change from being close to their best in several years to their very worst in 30 years, then.
