    It's not that different? A lot of the lyrics remain from the original, the guitar part did, the vocal melody did, the chords did, etc. It's pretty much the same song shortened with a new chorus.

    Feels a hell lot different to me. But the new version sounds more finished.


  4. We are all friends but but we don't agree. Would be very strange if everybody would agree. But there are a lot of people who listened to the original version (which, admit it was a better song than any other song on ATYCLB and Bomb...) and it became their favourite (just like me). But now it is just an intermediate song with an awfully banal chorus and these people are very disappointed.
    BUT there are other people who didn't know the original version or didn't like it. Now these people like the new version or really don't care about it. So here we are, sharing our opinions, our likings and disappointments. We will never agree but that's good as it is.

    I never said his opinion was wrong, I agree that he thought it was better live, I was saying that it was likely the placebo effect.

    The fact that he didn't like it UNTIL he heard it live, despite listening multiple times to boots of it, is pretty conclusive that it is the placebo effect working here.

    And Alex and Matt also seconded my post.

    So please don't jump on every single thing I post - I was just trying to explain why BelgianBono found it strange that he liked it live.

    If there was an award for songwriter with the most inconsistent quality of lyrics, Bono would take the cake.

  10. My opinion: I think the ideal "Mercy" would combine the old stanzas and subsequently greater length (6 minutes) from the original version but add the new chorus and faster tempo of the newer one.

    I hope Bono and the boys are reading this.

    The tempo is hardly faster, maybe by a beat or two per minute faster. AND THE NEW CHORUS BOMBS
