1. I've been having an Achtung Baby renaissance, so to speak, recently. Dipping into the influences of the album and the b-sides. It's such a fascinating era.

Please tell me you've read U2: At The End of the World, Kieran.

But yeah, I feel as though maybe along with early U2 (Boy and before) it's the easiest "era" of U2 to get caught up in. There's just so much there to listen to, read, watch, and explore. They had such a clear idea in mind of what they were going for, and it's so great to examine it from an audience perspective as well as the band's perspective now that they've talked enough about it.

Seriously, anyone who hasn't read that book and calls themselves a U2 fan needs to read it pronto. It's better than U2byU2 by far.

I sometimes wish that From the Sky Down had like an extended cut that went into the ZooTV era. That part when Bono says "this is a long way from the madness of ZooTV" and they just show glimpses of it seems like a missed opportunity. To me that would have made for a more interesting story. Show U2 beforehand, keep all of the stuff about them being tired and all that, but get more into what they ended up becoming.
  3. I've read it like 5 times!

Seriously, it's just so damn good. By the end of it you feel as though YOU as a reader have gone on tour with the band and you're part of their inner circle. You understand the relationships between them a lot better, their music a lot better, their ideas behind ZooTV, etc. It's just so damn good.

We should organise a mass-read of the book! Every week a chapter
  5. I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't read it. I haven't read many U2 books bit I'm going to order it based on the reviews in the last few posts.

    Yes, you won't regret it!

  7. Well after reading these past few pages, I ordered From the Sky Down and U2 At the End of the World from Amazon. Excited to get caught up on the stuff I missed out on the first time around. Thanks for the recommendations.
  8. it's the one book I haven't read or even own yet
  9. Then you know what to do! We really should do a "book club" here and read it all together
