1. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends/Prospekt's March

If not the album of the year, then atleast the title of the year (the title stretches are drifting into U2 territory). And Prospekt's March is every bit a part of it, what with Life in Technicolor II, the best song I've heard in years.

    Notable: Circus (Britney Spears)

Beautiful, beautiful album. I haven't heard it and I don't think I would like it but its definitely notable if only for the reason that is should annoy people reading this forum

The cutoff for an album's chances is September 30th, which is why HTDAAB won 2005's album of the year.

Personally I think Viva will take Album of the Year. It has a complete feel, has the radio hit of the summer, and it has some great Coldplay songs for their possible later years. Violet Hill, Lost and Lovers In Japan (the singles) are great songs that I think a lot of people would enjoy. DO I DARE MENTION THE TITLE TRACKS? Well, DAAHF does deserve a nod. IMO the best song of the album along with Lovers, and one of my absolute favorite songs ever. Then there's Viva. Summer hit. It's only competition IMO is Bleeding Love, which is a really good song. Hopefully people are sick of that one by now.

I will mention two other things. As rmann said, Britney Spears' album blah blah blah and so on. Well said, well said

The other thing is THE CARTER III. Wayne wayne go away, oh did I mention he skipped out on Boston two years in a row? I'm surprised my friends don't hate him by now. Which leads me to this: If lil wayne releases an album next year, it won't win anything. Why? Kanye's next album is due out in June. Last time Kanye West was challenged, he put out some of his best work. But enough of this chit chat about hip hop, because we all know 2009 will go to U2. My hope is that we get to see an album, because I've heard no news.

So long story short (after rambling for a while now), Coldplay pick up a few grammys for this year, some people are mad, I'm happy, and 2009 belongs to U2. Thank you, have a nice day!

    What about The Who!?

  4. Good one Jeremy! Yea see when I saw Coldplay live after seeing the Who, I saw the torch had been passed down. U2 currently have that torch, and hopefully they won't have to pass it on any time soon. And for some reason I want to talk about the Killers now. Their latest album to some is ok, really good, or really bad. I haven't heard it yet. All I figure is that their next album is a make or break. Sorry if I'm off topic....
  5. Viva La Vida first then Day & Age.

Viva La Vida comes out on top, especially if you include Prospekt's March.
We have to give Eno some credit.

Feel sorry for the Killers though, they'll have to go up against Horizon at next year's Grammy's. Maybe they can win best pop record.
  6. Best album - Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
    Notable - 4:13 Dream - The Cure

    I'm rediscovering my inner miserabilist/goth...

  7. Hello Freaks!!!!
    verve 4!!!
    brillant!!!
  8. album of the year 2008

IMO: Kings of leon , Only By The Night

what a great great album is that! such great haunting tunes!!
a recomandation for every music lover! first song(Closer) is the best, look for it on youtube if you want!

Flavors of Entaglement - Alanis Morisette
The '59 Sound - The Gaslight Anthem
Only By The Night - Kings of Leon
    Perfect Symmetry - Keane
Dig Out Your Soul - Oasis
    Forth - The Verve

Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!- Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
    4:13 Dream - The Cure

In Rainbows was released in most countries in the last week of 2007. However, in North America, it was released on January 1 2008. Can it still be included, as it was still in the official distribution period as of 2008?

I think you can guess who the winner is, and one other album in the winner category came very close to the top-rated album votes. There is also a mentions category, where the album is neither notable, nor being the best - it is just in there. At least some people can check out this list for interesting albums and bands to check out, too.
  10. Best: The Killers - Day & Age
Notable: Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night
  11. people not living in germany prolly don't know about it, but my fav album of this year is peter fox - stadtaffe.. with scars on broadway's scars on broadway as a runner up.
  12. Put me down for VLV. By far the best album I've heard all year. Killers is pretty forgettable, IMO.
