    I like how it's set in today's society, where people are increasingly individualistic and consumerism is rampant, and people don't believe in anything.

    And so you see what happens when the few good men like Batman, Harvey Dent and Commissioner Gordon, have to fight crime when they can't trust no one, not even their own police officers.

    Because the citizens of Gotham 'are only as good as their circumstances allow them to be' and no one is willing to stand up to do the right thing, which results in catastrophic consequences like how Rachel and Harvey are abducted by Gordon's cops and delivered to the Joker. Which begs the question is it worth Batman's effort to save people such as these?
