1. Please let's not turn this into a songs we do or don't want on the setlist topic, we have many of those elsewhere. Keep it relevant to what the tour might be named, themed, designed etc.
  2. how about we discuss WHEN we think the Tour announcement will come....

previous albums that were released in March:

The Joshua Tree (March 9, 1987), and Pop (March 3, 1997)

Popmart press conference was announced Feb. 12th 1997: The Joshua Tree (March 9, 1987), and Pop (March 3, 1997)

Of course we all know the Popmart tour was booked prematurely, in regards to the album being finished that is. So, if NLOTH is already complete (or very close to complete) as it appears to be i see now reason why they wouldn't already be mapping out with Live Nation now.

anyone know when initial Joshua dates were revealed prior to the album release? of course that was 20 years ago so not sure how relevant it is

what about Elevation and Vertigo tours, how far in advance were those tours announced prior to the album release? anyone know?

Pretty soon after, if I remember right.
  4. Announcement of tour and dates will be after the release of NLOTH.

I don't think they will make the same mistake as in 1997. You can read about this in U2 by U2.

I hope for a big stadium show with show elements, like the drum duet in LAPOE.

Most of all I would like to see a thematic show like ZOO TV, which was a brilliant concept, with humour, great music and great special effects.

I agree with you on the whole ZooTV front, that would be exciting but only if it goes with the mood if thats the right word of the album if you know what i mean! But i wouldn't want anything too dramatic like PoP.. way to disco/danced themed for my liking.

Agree. Popmart was ok, but fas not as good as ZOO TV.

I think ZOO TV is the best show concept ever done by a band.

Personally, I'd rather see something along the lines of Lovetown/Elevation, i.e. a straight-up rock show, but with that special element that only U2 have the capacity to bring. HOWEVER, that said, if we did get a big thematic shindig along the lines of ZooTV or PopMart, you wouldn't find me complaining lol.

Although Elevation and Vertigo were far from Lovetown, I think the last two tours were straight-up rock and going 'back to their roots'. There were no show-elements besides Bono with a police-hat.

  9. If I had to bet money, I would bet that they do this tour and one more. Bono is pushing 50, and I don't see him being the next Mick Jagger touring in his 70's. So I have a feeling that the unofficial theme of the tour will be a celebration of U2. Maybe some nuggets pulled out from time to time, and a general sense of joy.
  10. 1. The dumping of all the show events is believed by some to be a result of the time the lemon woulnd't open.
    - No. The last two tours had simpler staging for a few reasons but the lemon incident had nothing to do with it. Losing lots of money as Popmart was expensive to put on might have been part. But the other part was to return from the larger Zoo/Popmart shows to something more intimate.

    2. A Sort Of Homecoming would make a great encore. Picture it. The stage is drak, until a spotlight appears on Edge on the b-stage, with his Explorer, and a face mic. As he plays the opening riff Bono starts singing. When Larry, and Adam join in the guy in the light booth goes nuts.
-Great idea! I'd love to see them play this again!

    6. Increase setlist to at leat 30 songs.
    - Ain't gonna happen. Bono's voice can not handle the long 3-4 hour shows that Bruce Springsteen does/used to do.

    7. Have lots of guest performers.
    - Could be fun but then the bitching would start. Many bitched about Mary J. Blige sining One period, much less at a handful of U2 shows. I also remember many unkind things said about Patti Smith guesting with U2 in NY.

    10. Let Larry, and Adam sing.
    - Do NOT let Larry sing! Listen to his barroom versions of Whiskey In A Jar and Wild Rover from the Zoo shows. Funny? Sure but not so good.
  11. As long as I get tickets, I don't really give a shit, to be honest.
  12. given that the upcoming tour will likely stay in indoor arenas, (given the economy for one reason)...i dont think we're gonna see a big bulky set up like Pop or Zoo, not enough room indoors for shows like those, and they get too expensive too quickly

my guess is advanced production revolving around video effects and a broader user of screens and such. even something like their vertigo light curtains are now way out of date, that could be done much easier now, and better...can't wait to see what they dream up

i'll bet they go for more. after all they did just sign a 12 YEAR DEAL with Live Nation. They'll do it tastefully i'm sure.
