They already included the tracks of the new EP. It'll be released the same way Coldplay released Prospekt March. It'll be a mixed homage to Elvis Presley with 8 cover songs. Special Bonus includes sensational drummer Larry Mullen on the lead vocals for a cover of Frank Sinatra's May Way.
  3. The following vid was found on Interference, where some bloke said he got it on iTunes. Anyway, it shows a raw version of Magnificent and Unknown Caller which I both like. There is a discussion going on there about whether U2 played it safe with the album versions we have now and if the album would have been better if U2 showed more guts and made proper album versions of these raw recordings. What'd you think?

  4. Saw that video a while back. The album version of Magnificent sounds all the worse compared to the working version here. Sooooooo overproduced
  5. Also read that ChrisEdge will record the first night, so we're in for a 4-star audience at least.

True, they should have kept the Maroccan musicians at the first place. NLOTH is a good album but it will never reach the top for me. It's too safe and overproduced in some places.
  7. I'm not sure. I mean, some songs sound a bit overproduced (Magnificent, Stand Up) but other sound pretty raw and spontaneous like NLOTH, Moment Of Surrender, Breathe.

And the snippets on that (very cool) video are just ideas, I only can hear some basics of Magnificent and UC. But what I've heard from the beachclips (sorry to mention this), Breathe sounded a bit more raw but I think the final product is better, same counts for Boots and UC

Corbijn should have left the original songs on Linear. Because then then the movie makes sense & we hear some rawer and rougher tracks, which we can compare. I am very curious if the last months of recording in 2008 were that good for the album. I love the album nontheless. It think it's their best album that sounds really finished. When I hear AB it's great, but not quite finished too. Same counts for Pop or JT. ATYCLB and HTDAAB sounds finished, but both are not as good as NLOTH.

Did anyone notice that UC sounds different on the BC? or is it just the crap quality and beach noises?
Theres a drum bridge at the start and I hear differences in the vocals and the solo, but I could just be imagining it.

Magnificent could have been done better, but we got what we got. Not overly groundbreaking, a nice song at first, but it grates on you after a while.

Anyway, isn't that what Songs of Ascent is meant to be representative of? I think they recorded beautiful stuff like Winter (and even longer than Moment of Surrender), which hopefully Lanois and Eno advised on to release (he's always got great ideas), and an eight-song EP of that would be worth the wait.

I think the best way for it would to be release it on U2.com like the other stuff there as FLAC (as some releases already are) and on iTunes at 256Kbps and Amazon and 7digital and wherever else. If albums aren't selling so well, they don't waste time and money by trying to flog it via a record store. And chances are it would sell so much better, because the people who want to buy it (the fans and casual listeners) see it. Digitally seems to do a lot better.

But - if it turns out like Prospekt's March...still, it's U2 and guaranteed it'll sell, but I wonder to the same extent as No Line, for better or worse..
  12. Best news I've read in months. Great
