Anyway, isn't that what Songs of Ascent is meant to be representative of? I think they recorded beautiful stuff like Winter (and even longer than Moment of Surrender), which hopefully Lanois and Eno advised on to release (he's always got great ideas), and an eight-song EP of that would be worth the wait.

I think the best way for it would to be release it on U2.com like the other stuff there as FLAC (as some releases already are) and on iTunes at 256Kbps and Amazon and 7digital and wherever else. If albums aren't selling so well, they don't waste time and money by trying to flog it via a record store. And chances are it would sell so much better, because the people who want to buy it (the fans and casual listeners) see it. Digitally seems to do a lot better.

But - if it turns out like Prospekt's March...still, it's U2 and guaranteed it'll sell, but I wonder to the same extent as No Line, for better or worse..

I just want natural sounding songs..I mean, they say UC and MOS were more or less recorded in one take but they don't really sound like that. I love both, but I would love to hear the more raw versions of possible earlier takes.

euh MOS sounds really raw to me.

  3. Well, I don't say it's overproduced and it's the best song in many, many years imo, but somehow I have doubts. Just me, I guess lol

  4. MoS is too raw, its basically an ambient track except for the vocals.

That instrumental side of the track needed more work, Bono's vocals could have been left 'raw'.

I dunno if I'd have preferred the raw version to what they ended up with, but I completely agree, Magnificent could've benefitted from less fiddly shit. My main gripe is the intro. to be honest - it doesn't flow as part of the song. Interesting to see Edge playing Unknown Caller on a Tele. though - I wonder what he'd use if they ever played it live, because if the solo is anything but a Les Paul type job I'll shave my head.

  6. please promise there'll be pictures, harry

  7. Maybe I was too brash in that statement lol, I don't think I actually would, I'd simply attack it with a broken hairbrush maybe? Speaking of pictures...

Its a perfectly raw song, I don't see why people complain, I'd love U2 to do a live in the studio album, that would be class. MoS is lovely, amazing, great the way it is. imo

ambient is great, but i find that No Line sounds like it was worked into the ground. I wish they had left it alone and not tried to make it so perfect. Like I've said I was completely super fan about it before it came out and even for the first few weeks that I had it. But recently it's an album I just can't get lost in. Normally I could believe the band if they said a record was their best, but not this time. I keep trying to get into it again and believe that it's some of their best work but it just isn't happening. It's good but something about it is not letting me in, I'm not really sure what though. A part of me feels like it's U2 trying too hard to stay alive. I hate to call it their death rattle but that's the term that comes to mind. Hopefully me saying this will jar me back into the album but it just sounds like they're trying too hard. Weird though as I fucking loved it when i first heard it and thought it was their best album. But even MOS, which is a good track, does sound too overproduced for being a "one take track", Bono does not sing like that, granted it is full of soul, but that's not his natural voice. Just seems like they were saying "we have to make a record that is consciously different blah blah blah etc." It worked for Achtung Baby but I just don't know about this time around. Maybe seeing the tour will change my mind.
  10. No Line on the Horizon gets better with age!

I didn't listen for a few weeks, came back and it sounds Great!!!

    I love my U2!! (our U2)
  11. sometimes I think that people are pondering too hard about the music, whether it's 'overproduced', not raw or perfect enough. why not just listening to it and enjoying it?

reminds me of when I had to read a book for school. I liked reading it, but once we analyzed it to death, I hated it lol.

  12. yeah i hated that too, at first it was a good story but then picking it apart was annoying and so i thought it was boring. I'm not a good enough musician to analyse songs in such a way but i love listening to them and appreciating them
