Ex- Kansas leader Kerry Livgren reworked his 1988 "Prime Mover" solo album twice completely, once in 1998 and again in 2008. Each result was considerably better than the previous one, and I don't know how many original single tracks are still used on the newest version - probably just a few guitars and BGVs. He also reworked his "Collector's Sedition" album once, replacing a lot of tracks with re- recorded ones and adding more stuff. This was definitely worth the effort, too.
I know U2 aren't Kansas. So I'm happy with the album version of POP plus the Re- POP version I assembled from single versions, B- sides, selfmade edits and "Best of 1990-2000" re- recordings. They don't have to redo POP for me. But it could be interesting to hear their new take on old stuff.
I'm not having it. I like the albums as they are. They're young and of their time. Wasn't the whole point of Boy and October was that they were innocent? No offence to the lads, but I think their time of innocence was left behind with Bono's mullet and Larry's babyface.
Re-doing the albums would be like watching cabaret.
Instead they should try and make a more innovative album than No Line On The Horizon
