1. On what grounds? Can you say why you think it's the best opener?

Sorry, I just need to know why it's the 'best' given that there are other rockier songs on the album that could possibly open the show.

The Fly would be cool, Acrobat and EBTTRT not so much
Gone wouldn't really fit in, would be great to see tough
Vertigo and Pride are the highlights of the show lol
And In A Little While is tons better than Stay and Stuck In A Moment

SUC and Fez wouldnt really be that cool live. SUC sucks and Fez is too dark

I must say that it was my first U2 show (the first night in Paris), and the previous setlists of the first european shows were completely unknown to me...of course, I know they can't play all my favourites songs during the show and I suppose that I made in my mind a sort of "perfect setlist" long time before this day ...but I continue to think that there was an alternate choice for the first song (maybe it's the feeling that this song needs more "darkness" (?) because the first Paris concert began during daylight, I don't know..)
For me, Vertigo wasn't one of the highlight of the show (a sort of GOYB - part 2, not very necessary for me )...more to say with Pride
Concerning SUC, I was very curious about a live version, I think I'd appreciate to see The Edge playing the song (I love this guitar's riff
I agree about the "too dark" feeling of Fez, that's why I was curious too to hear a live version
  3. I'm all for Fez-Being Born being added to the setlist.

Maybe open or rotate with Unknown Caller.

The only song I think from the NLOTH discography that would do a better job in my opinion would be Being Born, and since they haven't brought that out yet, Breathe is the only one that does it for me in the current format. NLOTH is great but it works feeding off the song before. The way they play it doesn't really suit an opening song in my books. GOYB actually wouldn't be too bad, but I like the subtle eery buildup to Breathe with the drum intro. and everyone coming in one by one, and on all the boots everyone goes nuts when Edge crashes out the opening chords so I'm cool with it.

The one almost dead-cert is that they won't use anything from the back catalogue to open, so I think people may as well drop any ideas about COBL or Streets opening etc. It's just not gonna happen in my opinion.
  5. But there is one little problem with this Breathe's crash by Edge - this guitar is too quiet ! It is hardly any " crash " there.. why can;t they play this song in a way they made it on a NLOTH promo tour ? and do the same with Magnificent ? I don't know what happened with Magnificent since the tour started - so well on promo tour, so weak now..

  6. Good idea.

I'm happy with the setlists so far. They will rotate more later on I guess. I think the set will look different when the boys play in the US. Probably they could use a different opener, Breathe isn't the best choice IMO. And they can try come POP stuff (probably rotate MoFo with Ultraviolet? It is possible, although Ultraviolet is of course part of Bono's act..)

but imagine him with the LED jacket and wheel microphone during mofo, shaking it like a madman I can see it work!

  8. Hehe, why not? Some POP content would be cool. Hold Me, Discotheque, Please, Gone...probably an acoustic Wake Up Dead Man. And I'm still hoping for North And South Of The River to appear. But these are just suggestions, setlist could have been MUCH worse.

  9. Yes, it sounds a bit tired..already unfortunately. But the Milan version with the opera part is a great exception.

Well, pretty much exactly what Harry (Wojbhoy) just said
Also, I feel that starting with an old song is the stupiest thing they could possibly do, cause in that way they almost immidiately show that they're not fond on the new album and prefer their older stuff. Which might be true, but not really the attitude a band should show.

AND Breathe starts where Vertigo ended
Remember the end of the Chicago dvd?
And what does the 360 tour open with?
  11. I don't agree with the band starting with an old song either, but what I meant was possibly rotating the songs that could be played as the opener and see which one fits best, like they did on the Vertigo Tour between LAPOE, COBL and Vertigo.

Nah I get what you meant mate, the point about the old songs debate was in reference to someone else's post
