  3. Radiohead's Touring Company Investigated by Canadian Ministry of Labour

Four companies, including one run by the members of Radiohead, have been asked to comply with an investigation by the Canadian Ministry of Labour into the stage collapse that resulted in the death of the band's drum technician, the Toronto Star reports. Scott Johnson, 33, was killed on Saturday when the top portion of the stage at Downsview Park in Toronto collapsed an hour before gates opened for ticketholders.

The Ministry of Labour has identified four companies – Radiohead's own Ticker Tape Touring LLP, Toronto-based Optex Staging and Services, Nasco Staffing Solutions and the concert promoter Live Nation – as being directly responsible for the incident. Ministry spokesman Matt Blajer has told the Toronto Star that they have issued orders "mainly to Live Nation."

The investigation into the collapse has been hobbled somewhat by the number of companies involved in putting on the show. "We’re still trying to figure out who owns what, who’s responsible for what," Blajer told the Star. "You’ve got lighting technicians, sound technicians, the band’s people — we’re trying to figure out who worked for whom."

All four major companies involved in Radiohead's Toronto show have not commented on this story, though Radiohead themselves issued a statement regarding the death of Johnson. "We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague," they wrote on Sunday. "He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott's family and all those close to him."

  4. What a clusterfuck. I wonder if they'll have to postpone the tour.
  5. Well, who's in charge of erecting the stage? I initially was under the impression that it went down during it's contruction (near the end due to the collapse occuring at 4pm) but I guess that's wasn't the case.
  6. 4 companies are under investigation, Live Nation among them ..

Four companies, including one run by the members of Radiohead, have been asked to comply with an investigation by the Canadian government into the stage collapse which led to the death of the band's drum technician on Saturday (June 16).

Ticker Tape Touring LLP, which lists Johnny Greenwood, Philip Selway, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien and Thom Yorke as board members has been identified by the Canadian Ministry of Labour as one of at least four companies involved in the collapse, the Toronto Star reports.
Toronto-based Optex Staging and Services, Nasco Staffing Solutions and concert promoter Live Nation have all been asked to comply with the investigation into the tragedy at Downsview Park in Toronto.

Canadian Ministry of Labour spokesperson Matt Blajer said that it had issued orders "mainly to Live Nation", adding that stage blueprints which were signed and approved by an engineer have already been submitted for investigation. Blajer added that the number of companies operating on the site has posed a challenge to investigators We're still trying to figure out who owns what, who’s responsible for what," Blajer said. "You've got lighting technicians, sound technicians, the band's people — we're trying to figure out who worked for whom.

  7. increasingly insistent rumors give the tour postponed to september .. at the least the 4 italian dates .. but very likely all but the 2 festivals i guess
  8. Well, at least it's just postponed...I am pretty sure that they won't be coming back to Canada to play one gig - especially in Toronto.

I've yet to refund my tickets, however.
  9. Im totally addicted to Jigsaw Falling In To Place for the last week.

Amazing song And I spend the last few days listening to a lot of Radiohead, Pablo Honey is a great album imo.
  10. Pablo Honey is underrated. It's very "1990's" but there are some really solid tracks on it - beyond "Creep." that is.

I think some people are a bit hard on the album only because they did such a great job building on it with The Bends and OK Computer.

    Everybody's got to start somewhere.
  11. Radiohead are set to reschedule seven shows following Saturday's stage collapse in Toronto, which killed crew member Scott Johnson and injured three others.

The band have had to postpone seven European shows set for the end of this month and the beginning of July, as the accident also destroyed the band's 'unique' lightshow and parts of their backline setup, all of which now needs to be replaced in order for the tour to continue. The statement reads:

Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with.

The following shows in Italy, Germany and Switzerland will be rescheduled, with new dates and refund information to be announced on June 27: Rome Hippodrome Capanelle (June 30), Florence Parco delle Cascine (July 1), Bologna Arena Parco Nord (3), Codroipo Villa Manin (4), Berlin Wuhlheide (6-7) and St Triphon Carriere des Andonces (9).

The band will pick up the tour in France at Les Arenes Nimes (July 10) and will go on to play the Bilbao BBK and Lisbon Optimus Alive festivals.

Yesterday it was revealed that four companies, including one run by the members of Radiohead, have been asked to comply with an investigation by the Canadian government into the stage collapse. Ticker Tape Touring LLP, which lists Johnny Greenwood, Philip Selway, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien and Thom Yorke as board members has been identified by the Canadian Ministry of Labour as one of at least four companies involved in the collapse, the Toronto Star reported.

Toronto-based Optex Staging and Services, Nasco Staffing Solutions and concert promoter Live Nation have all been asked to comply with the investigation into the tragedy at Downsview Park.

The stage collapsed an hour before the gates opened to the public and queues were already forming outside the 40,000 capacity venue. Emergency crews were quick on the scene and the area was evacuated. The victims were all part of the team setting up equipment.

Both Radiohead and Keane, with whom Johnson also worked, have paid tribute to him.
