1. Hmm...I assume they're releasing it because they think it has "breakaway hit" potential? I'd hate to disagree with them, but .... meh.

It's not awful, it's just dull.
  2. Not bad, wont be to critical mainly due to the fact i have bombed out zooropa, pop,, NLOTH, and guess what have started listening to them again. after a nother few listens will most probably love it like everything else.

I watched the performance last night - BORING.

  4. Creatively speaking, they're in a hole IMO. If this and Glastonbury represent where their head is at then maybe it's a good job we won't have an album in 2011.

I think Spiderman will become/is their absolute creative and artistic nadir. Something they will forever regret. That Spider-man on that piece of string just made me die a little inside.

I get the impression that if they could get out now they probably would, but it's too late.

Disagree. I think it's nothing more than another side project for Bono and Edge, just like the other soundtracks they've done in their career (Captive, Clockwork Orange, etc.). This time around they just had more money and better technology to get their point across.

Agree with you about this song and Glastonbury being a bit lame, but I don't think they should represent any future U2 release. Don't get me wrong, I understand what you're saying, but we've also heard songs like Every Breaking Wave and North Star, which in my opinion sound really great. Like I've said before, I don't think we'll have a new U2 album as soon as poeple think we will, and when it does come out I think it'll be great. U2 knows that NLOTH was a bit of a failed experiment, and whether or not they try to push the boundaries more and get more experimental, or go back to pop-rock tunes, I think next time they'll have a more clear idea of where they want to go and we'll end up with a kick ass album.
  6. I actually love that song for some reason, really uplifting

  7. I am sure this has been said (many times) before, but they failed on NLOTH because they didn't experiment enough. Please U2, no more "Crazy Boots" tunes.

  8. I like the song, but i´d like a lot more if it was a different arrangement... even if it was more u2 ish... too many things, not one to be really noticed!

I think it could have gone either way and still had been more successful. If they went ALL pop-rock it would have made more sense, and if they went all experimental it would have also made more sense. What they came up with was a mish-mash of both, and it sounded like them starting out experimental but chickening out. I'd love to see them go all Passengers or Zooropa on us and make an experimental album.

My point exactly (you stated it better, however). I think they will go and do a "pop" (as opposed to POP) record next in hopes of saving face with the general public. The experimental SoA will porbably be put on hold for awhile, if not forever...maybe it'll become a fanclub release.
